Text Structure Analysis
• The author presents his idea about “How
to Make a Good Impression” with a
general statement/point and then
continues to support his general point with
a list of examples. This is one of the most
common ways to support an ideas or an
opinion, very effectively, especially for a
short paragraph.
• The key points for this structure are:

1.You have to list examples, just by naming
them. It is not necessary to go into details
about the examples, as the list of
examples is quite enough to support the
point.
2.All the examples in the list must be
supporting the point you are making.

Structured Writing
• Here is a general statement. You can
choose a topic for your own paragraph.
• A general statement: many kinds of sports
on our university grounds
• List of examples: football/baseball/tennis/
basketball/swimming/high jumping/weight

Summary of the Text
• Within seven seconds, a chain reaction helps
you start making up your mind about others you
meet. You show your true feelings consciously or
unconsciously through your eyes, face and body
because you are the message. You must use
your good qualities such as physical
appearance,rate of speech,pitch and tone of the
voice and gestures so others will cooperate with
you.When you are committed to what you are
talking about and absorbed beyond selfconsciousness,others listen to you. Because

• the most effective people never change, it is
important to be yourself at your best and
consistently communicate with your whole being.
Since others believe what they see before what
they hear, use your eyes to look directly at
others and smile to demonstrate your ease
during the exchange. You can lighten up the
situation by using humor and by being your true
self without any huge changes in personality.

only you can be you.

Reading Skills
• Reading for main ideas in paragraphs:
• One sentence tells the reader exactly what the rest of
the paragraph deals with and therefore, gives the main
idea. The main idea sentence may appear in the
beginning, in the middle or at the end of the paragraph,
and be expressed in more than one simple sentence or
even to be implied / suggested.
• Analyze Para.7,Passage A.
• Main idea: How to project yourself as being consistent in
whatever you do.
• Analyze Passage B and find the main idea of each para.
