What does this have to do with projectile motion?
Horizontal Motion

The force of gravity could never alter the horizontal
velocity of an object since perpendicular components of
motion are independent of each other; vertical force does
not effect a horizontal motion.
Vertical Motion

The only force acting on the
falling object is gravity,
therefore the motion in the
vertical direction will follow the
same rules as an object in free
fall.
Projectile Motion

When both components are linked together using a
common factor you get Projectile Motion in 2
dimensions!

Objectives:
 1) Using time, distance, and vector analysis, determine velocity of ball
thrown into air.
 2) To find the best angle for throwing a projectile for maximum range.
 3) To apply knowledge to softball situations.
Materials: softball, stopwatch, football field.
Method:
 You will throw a softball several times at different angles and velocities
in order to get enough data to make a viable conclusion about the
physics of softball throwing.
Procedures:
 Design a lab procedure that will answer these questions using multiple
trials and will allow you to have the data to back up your conclusions.
