FAQ
Where can I find a list of qualified DVBEs?
The California Department of General Services maintains the official
database of all qualified DVBEs. It provides company name, address,
ownership, and certification status, and is searchable not only by key
words, UNSPSC and NAICS codes. Access to this database is through
the database contractor, BidSync, at
http://www.bidsync.com/DPXBisCASB.
FAQ
What resources are there to help us find DVBEs for contracting or
subcontracting opportunities?
A deep and extensive network of support organizations has been
developed over the last 25 years since the passage of the DVBE program
law. Both the Department of Veterans Affairs (CalVet) and the
Department of General Services have professional staff that work with all
stakeholders. CalVet also hosts a DVBE Advisory Board which meets
quarterly to review program matters and recommend improvements. The
Disabled Veterans Business Alliance has a professional staff that works with
both government and private sector organizations to help qualify and
match DVBEs with potential contracting opportunities. Additionally,
taxpayer-funded groups like the Small Business Development Centers and
the Procurement Technical Assistance Centers help DVBEs grow their
businesses and prepare for the challenging world of government and
corporate contracting.
FAQ
How can we vet DVBE firms for particular purposes?
The Disabled Veterans Business Alliance works with both government
agencies and prime contractors to identify and connect DVBEs with
specific contracting opportunities. In addition, various organizations
including the Alliance sponsor and/or participate in business
matchmaking events.
FAQ
What is the Insurance Diversity Initiative?
The Insurance Diversity Initiative was established by Insurance
Commissioner Dave Jones in an effort to focus on diversity issues within
California's $123 billion insurance industry.
FAQ
How does the initiative help diverse businesses?
To California's minority, women, and disabled-veteran owned
businesses (MWDVBEs or "diverse businesses"), this Initiative represents
an open door to a once seemingly impenetrable market and thus
increased business opportunities.
The Department’s biennial Insurer Supplier Diversity Survey will now
provide vital information to diverse businesses on where and how to
search for new opportunities within the insurance industry.
FAQ
As a diverse business, does the Survey provide helpful
information to me?
Yes! The reports of the 2013 Survey are now posted and available
online (www.insurance.ca.gov/diversity). The reports and the
“Resource Documents” created give diverse businesses the opportunity
to 1) find insurance companies who are dedicated to supplier diversity;
2) find out what kinds of programs and opportunities exist at a
company; and 3) who to contact at the company if interested in a
contract.
FAQ
What resources are available within the Department of Insurance
as an insurer?
We do not maintain a database of diverse suppliers. However, we
want to give insurers the opportunity to meet California’s diverse
businesses! This is why we hold an Annual Diversity Summit. At the 2014
Summit, we are planning to include a matchmaking session.
