Shooting video with editing in mind (for beginners)
> PLAN which shots you want before the action begins
> STEADY yourself to keep camera motion to a minimum – sit, kneel, lean
> Take MULTIPLE fixed-frame shots at different angles
> HOLD each shot for LONGER than you think you should
> Hold for a few seconds BEFORE and AFTER panning and zooming
> If you pan, or zoom in and out, GO SLOWER than you think you should
> Get shots that provide context (wide shots) and interest (close ups)
> Pay attention to lighting and sound
> Set white balance

> Connect camera to computer and turn on its video playback feature (VCR)
> File/ Capture
> Use the buttons at the bottom of the Capture dialog box to rewind, fast forward
and play the tape.
> Click on the record button to begin and end capture of each clip (Screen Shot G).
For best results, start and end recording a few seconds before and after the
footage that you want to use).

(select ‘x’ in upper right) (see Screen Shot I for location of add text button)
> Drag title asset from the Project Window to Video 2 track at the location
of the Current Time Indicator
> Resize the title so it has the desired duration. If it is too small to see on the
Timeline, then use the Timeline Viewing Area Bar to resize the Timeline
until you can resize the title (see Screen Shot K)
> View the location and timing of the title in the Source Monitor
> Double click on the title asset icon in the Project Window to edit the title

Adding video transitions
• You can add many different visual transitions between clips.
• Click on the “effects” tab in the window in the bottom left corner of the
screen.
• Select the “video transitions” drop down menu
• Choose whatever transition you want to use. (You can play around with
these to figure out which ones you like the best. Probably the most
commonly used one is “dissolve”->”dip to black” but it’s worth
experimenting to find other transitions to achieve specific desired effects)
• Drag the transition you want from the effects window to between the two
clips where you want the transition to appear in the video line of the
Timeline Sequence window.
• You can play around with the other effects in the same way—drag the
effect onto the area in the Timeline Sequence where you would like to
apply the effect and see what it does!
