Shortly about St. Petersburg
Although just 300 years old St. Petersburg is considered to be one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
Founded in 1703 by Emperor Peter the Great as his "window on the West", St. Petersburg enjoys a vibrant,
cosmopolitan atmosphere and some of the most beautiful architecture in Europe. It is often referred to as
the Venice of the North or the Paris of the East, but its beauty is really a brand all its own. From the White
Nights festival during the mysterious summer twilight to top theater and ballet productions and concerts on
magical winter evenings.
Attractions in St. Petersburg overwhelm even the most seasoned travelers. From the State Hermitage
Museum and the Mariinsky Theater to splendid suburban palaces and dozens of smaller museums.
The Venice of the North boasts over 500 bridges ranging from the very narrow pedestrian Lions and Bank
chain bridges to the unique Medieval and Modern styled Bolshoi Okhtinsky Bridge and the giant
drawbridges, which span the wide Neva River.
St. Petersburg is often referred to as the "Gorod Muzei" and locals take great pride in preserving the city
and country's great heritage in scores of museums ranging from the massive Russian Museum to the
extensive Russian Ethnographic Museum.

The city's two airports, Pulkovo-1 and Pulkovo-2, are about an hour's drive from the hotel. The nearest metro
station - Primorskaya, is about 15 minutes' walk from the Hotel, or around five minutes by bus.

History of St. Petersburg Metro
The first plans to build a metro in St.
Petersburg were drawn in 1899, but were
not implemented due to the outbreak of
WWI and then the Revolution of 1917. In
1941, 8 years after the Moscow metro was
opened, building was started on the
Leningrad metro, but a few months later
the U.S.S.R. was forced to enter WWII.
After the war the construction work
resumed and the first metro line was
opened on November 15, 1955. Since then
the metro network has grown to four lines
with an average of 1.9 km between
its 55 stations
Line #1 - Red,
Line #2 - Blue,
Line #3 - Green
Line #4 - Yellow.
Line #1 has the most beautiful stations and
thus is perfect for "metro sightseeing".

St Petersburg is a relatively young city. Despite
the fact, it is a beautiful and fascinating
holiday destination and one of the most
intriguing and historically significant cities in
Europe. Whether you chose to visit the city in
the midst of snowy winter or during the white
nights of the summer months, you will be
charmed by its culture and beauty.
