(2). The theme of this comedy
The School for Scandal is a comedy of manners, whose theme is
morality. It sets merciless satire on the moral degeneracy of the
aristocratic-bourgeois society in the 18th century England, on the
vicious scandal mongering among the idle rich, and on the reckless life
of extravagance and intrigues in the upper class and exposes the
immorality and hypocrisy of the upper class who wear masks of
morality and nobility.

(3). The greatness of this comedy
The greatness of this comedy also lies in its theatrical art. Though its
dramatic techniques are largely conventional, they are employed
excellently and superbly. Its plot is well organized, its characters, either
major or minor, are all sharply and vividly drawn. Theatrical devices
such as disguise, mistaken identity and dramatic irony are also
exploited to the best advantage. Witty dialogues and neat and decent
language also make a characteristic of this play.
