A verb is a word used to express action, condition,
or a state of being.
The giraffes munched on fresh leaves.
They are herbivores
An action verb expresses a physical or mental
action.
John Muir wrote about Yosemite National
Park.
Both of us admired the brilliant fall foliage.
Linking verbs express state of being and link the
subject of a sentence (topic) to a word in the
predicate (words in the sentence that come
after the verb).
is, are, was, were, am, be, being, been, appear,
become, feel, look, remain, sound, taste
Linking or Action:
grow, feel, taste
Auxiliary verbs (helping verbs) are combined
with action verbs to form verb phrases (more
than one verb).
There are 23 auxiliary verbs.
