Introduction
 Review 2.x VUI troubleshooting
 Be familiar with the Real Time Monitoring Tool (RTMT)
 Be familiar with the Remote Port Status Monitor (rPSM)

Utterance Capturing
 Turn on micro trace: VUI, Capture Utterances
 May impact system performance, turn off after troubleshooting
 RTMT: Trace & Log Central, Remote Browse, Connection
Conversation Manager and Connection Voice Recognition
Transport
 One folder for each MRCP session
 44 byte wave files are due to silence/timeouts
 Wave files are mono 8khz u-law

Utterance Capturing (continued)
 Troubleshoot issues with audio quality
 Troubleshoot issues with foreign accents not being
recognized by the US English engine

Grammar Statistics
 In the SA under Tools, Grammar Statistics
 Shows last modified time and number of items in each
grammar
 If grammar updates are suspended, “pending updates”
may be true
 On a very large system, “is rebuilding” may be true
while the system updates the grammar

Grammar Update Schedule
 In the SA under System Settings, Schedules
 Must be named “Voice Recognition Update Schedule”
 Defines times when grammars can be updated (default
is always)
 Use on a very large system to suspend intensive
grammar updates during business hours

Bulk Operations
 Grammar updates are suspended during bulk
operations
 BAT, COBRAS, digital networking replication, etc.
 Grammars should be automatically updated 10-20
minutes after all bulk operations end

Forcing Grammar Updates
 Force grammar update from the CLI with the “run cuc
vui rebuild” command
 Force grammar update from the SA with the “Rebuild
Grammars” button under Tools, Grammar Statistics
 Only builds grammars that have pending updates
 Check Grammar Statistics page to see if grammars
have pending updates

 Enable access from a client machine in the SA under
Advanced, Conversations, Enable Remote Port Status
Monitor Output and IP Addresses To Connect…
 Shows changes to search space
 Shows speech input and confidence score
 Captures utterances and logs for a call (requires root
access)

Nuance Call Logs
 Requires root access
 Under /var/opt/cisco/connection/logs/callLogs
 One file for each MRCP session
 Use to troubleshoot recognition problems, post-mortem
 Helpful to use with captured utterances
