Lack of specialists & training infrastructure outside Maputo
Distance between the Medical Schools
High mobility of Health Personal
Lack of incentives and bad salaries for the Health Staff
Identified Needs
Establish connectivity between the Medical Schools and Training
Hospitals through Internet gateway at CIUEM
Increase access to electronic information for Tutors, Firm-Chiefs and
Post-Graduates
Maximize effectiveness of the existing training staff by promoting their
continuous medical education (short courses, grand medical rounds,
seminars, etc)
Reach an agreement between Ministry of Health & Medical Council on
the need for speeding the training of Post-Graduates (Colleges of
Specialties, Heads of Departments, National Commission Post-Graduation
Major achievements
Appointment of 5 Firm-Chiefs training starts April /August + agreement
with Medical Council & Ministry to increase entries for specilaties in 2011
(MoH accepted to include 60 extra candidates for 6 main specialties)
Agreement with the Colleges of Specialties, National Commission for
Post-Graduation & Departments at HCM on the training programmes
Approval of the “Regulamento de Pos-Graduacao” (Ministry of Health &
Medical Council) which allows monitoring & evaluation of the process
Appointment of focal points for the project by the Universities Unilurio &
UniZambeze

* Some hospital activities will be online with Universities for the
benefit of staff and medical graduates!!!

Participate in Daily Clinical Meetings (Journal Club & Case Reports)
Training of Post-Graduates on the bedside (Daily Medical Rounds)
Orientate Post-Graduates in preparing Clinical Presentations (1x week)
Prepare Presentations, Teach abilities & Organize Tutorials (afternoons)
Discussion of Deaths & Department Statistics
Prepare Monthly Department Grand Round twice during the year
Design a research protocol (under supervision) to implement during the 2nd year
Participate in relevant scientific meetings as suggested by Tutors/Coordinators

Supervisors in collaboration with counterparts from UCSD
Scientific activity 1x/y including Continuing Medical Education,
development of teaching skills and presentation of research
