Honors Biology Class Sophomore Year
 Welcome to Honors Biology Class.
 This course will focus on:
Cells, Genetics, Heredity,
DNA, RNA and Protein Synthesis,
the Theory of Natural Selection and
Evolution, Food Webs, Ecology and
the Environment.
Biology Class
Sophomore Year
 Biology Class is a required course for sophomore
students. The MCAS Science Exam is schedules for
June of this year.
 All topics covered in Freshman year
and in Sophomore year will be needed
for the MCAS Exam.

 Honors Biology Class includes labs and class

activities that reinforce the lessons
Lab reports are required
Safety is required at all times
Personal Protection Equipment is
necessary and provided
Labs/Projects/Activities are all
important aspects of Science Class
GRADING SYSTEM
 Homework: 20% - Homework will be assigned every day during the
academic week and additional assignments will be given during the
technical shop week, example - Vocabulary words and definitions.
 Class Participation: 20% - Class work includes worksheets, book, class
participation, and preparedness. Not being prepared or not participating in
class will result in deduction of class grade.
 Labs/Activities: 20% - All labs will require formal lab reports. Behavior
will affect grade.
 Tests: 25% - Tests will be announced in advance. Make - up tests must be
taken before the next Academic Week. Tests may be made up on Tuesday
and Thursday after school during shop week.
 Quizzes: 15% - Quizzes may be unannounced and frequent. Every
Monday the vocabulary for the new chapter is due. Vocabulary words and
definitions written out in the student’s notebook.
GRADING SYSTEM
 Late Homework Policy –
Homework must be turned in when due.
Late homework will be graded as half credit.
Homework is a requirement of the curriculum.
 Missed Quizzes and Tests Policy –
Missed quizzes and tests must be made up before the
beginning of the next Academic class week.
 Extra help is available on Tuesday and
Thursday after school, 2:30 pm - 3:20 pm.
 A late bus is provided.
Supplies needed:
 A 3 – ring binder for handouts; notebook or paper
for vocabulary words and definitions; pencil or
writing utensils; ruler; colored pencils and
highlighters.
 Classroom set of TEXTBOOKS – Textbooks will be
issued to students, by request, if needed for home.
Class Rules:
 Follow directions. Be on time & be seated
 Have student I.D. & handbook with you at all times
 Be Prepared – homework, pencils/pens, paper
 No yelling, swearing, harassing, or insulting others
 No hats, cell phones, headphones/ electronic
devices, food or drink in the classroom
 Consequences: Based on the class management
system at Nashoba Valley Technical High School.
Biology Class
Sophomore Year
 Biology Class will prepare Sophomores for the MCAS
Biology/Science Test in June 2015.
 Practice MCAS Tests and Essays will be given and
reviewed throughout the year to help the students
become familiar with the format.
