What Are the A-G and Graduation Requirements?

        (A) History/Social Science (B) English (C) Mathematics (D) Lab Science (E) Language Other than English (F) Visual & Performing Arts Students MUST complete all these requirements with a minimum “C” or better for college and “D” for high school credit.

Mathematics “C” Requirement High School Graduation: (20 credits)

 Algebra 1  Geometry

College requirement:

MINIMUM OF Algebra 2  More math recommended

Science “D” Requirement High School Graduation: (20 credits)

 Physical Science (10 Credits)  Biological Science (10 Credits)

College Requirement:

 Biology (1 year)  Chemistry (1 year)  More science recommended

Visual/Performing Arts “F” Requirement

High School Graduation: (10 credits)    One year of the same class taken consecutively Students have Music, Drama and Arts options to choose from. Will meet beyond minimum requirement since a Performing Arts class will be taken every year.

Language Other Than English “G” Requirement High School Graduation:

 None

College Requirement: AT LEAST two years of the same language

 Spanish and French are offered at Hamilton.  With counselor approval, other languages such as American Sign Language, Hebrew, German, etc. can be taken in an outside program for credit.

Passing CAHSEE Exit exam in English and Math. Students will take in 10 th until passed. grade

Grade Plan

       Regular or Honors English 9 Depending on middle school grades, InterCoord. Science or Biology Performing Arts/Music Health/Music Health is a 1 semester class. Half the students will start in Health and the other half will start with Music. In spring, classes alternate. Foreign Language Physical Education/Dance/ Sport/Marching Band Math (Algebra 1, Geometry, or Algebra 2)

 Students should have a B or better in middle school to move on to the next level of Math in 9 th grade. For example, students who received a C in Algebra 1 or Geometry in middle school are strongly encouraged to retake the course in 9 th grade.  Students who are having difficulty in Algebra/Algebra Readiness as demonstrated by middle school grades and low standardized test scores will be taking an additional period of math called Math Tutorial along with Algebra 1.
