LLP – ERASMUS
PLACEMENT
•
It is part of the Lifelong Learning Programme – Erasmus and
enables university students to spend a 3-month internship in a
European country
•
Applications in Autumn > Selection (CV evaluation + interview to
check the language level and real motivation ) > Placements start in
Winter and Spring
•
Host partners: enterprises, NGOs, cultural bodies and international
relations offices > their quality commitment is described in the
cooperation agreement (work duties, insurance, etc.)
– cooperation in previous projects;
– found by the interns
•
The number of grants vary every academic year according to the
results achieved in the previous year and are assigned by the
National Agency together with the Erasmus Study grants
•
Placement consortium: group of universities holders of an extended
ERASMUS University Charter (1 coordinator) + other organizations
(professional associations, trade organizations, social partners and
centres for vocational guidance/counselling) to facilitate further
placement opportunities abroad
LLP – LEONARDO
DA VINCI
•
It is Part of the European Commission's Lifelong Learning
Programme and funds a wide range of actions
•
Our projects refer to the People in the Labour Market (= people
available for employment) i.e. our recent graduates who undergo a
training period abroad in a vocational training context (generally 3 or
5 months)
•
Host partners: NGOs, enterprises, chambers of commerce,
research centres, cultural associations, museums and international
relations offices > they join our network by subscribing a letter of
intent to describe the work duties and quality commitment
•
We submit a new project every year to the National Agency >
BOOST to add new details/partners but also a WEAK POINT!
– No line of continuity because preference is given to those
institutions who have never applied before ≠ Erasmus
Placement
– You work hard but no guarantee of final success
– The only way to give a financial contribution to our graduates to
serve an internship abroad
Budget
• Grants + Preparation for the beneficiaries
• Organization of Mobility for the sending institution
• Each intern receives a grant which covers the living and travel expenses in two
installments: 80% at the beginning and 20% at the end of the placement
• Extra contribution to attend a language course before or during the placement
• Cultural preparation: we provide the beneficiaries with thematic brochures and we
organize meetings to assure a tailor-made support. We involve intermediary partners like the
University Language Lab, AIESEC (international students’ association), the City CouncilEurodesk office, etc.
• Final evaluation of the competences: it involves the sending institution, the host partner
and the professor (academic mentor) who attributes a certain number of ECTS to the
placement for an assessment on European basis.
• By undergoing a professional internship, the beneficiaries gain experience in another
European country, acquire new vocational, language and interpersonal skills, adapt to
new situations, and gain insight into how training and workplace environments operate in
other countries.
Tips for a
successful LLP
project
• Analysis of needs and points of innovation
• Relevance of partnership (no sleeping partners!): their expertise, role, inclusion of SMEs
and social partners (right mix)
• As sending institution: coordination of mobility, definition of monitoring and mentoring
techniques, management of budget and constant interaction with the host partners to define
the placement objectives and the final evaluation
• Key role played by:
•the intern (actively involved to define the tasks and in the ongoing and final evaluation
process; clear understanding of new cross-cultural realities and working environments)
• the professors/academic mentors (recognition of skills and ECTS credits)
• the host partners (tailor-made placements, tutor to support and evaluate the intern)
• the intermediary partners (preparation and dissemination)
• Dissemination:
•identify the target groups and their needs
(students: first field experience ≠ graduates: employability)
• identify the stakeholders at a regional, national and possibly international level
(connection between university and labour market)
•Short term and long term impact on education and vocational training systems >
personal and professional development achieved, confirmation of learned skills
MAE CRUI
The internships have been established through the Convention between the Ministry
of Foreign Affairs (Diplomatic Institute), the CRUI, the Conference of Italian
University Rectors and 70 Italian Universities
The Internships are offered to:
– Italian newly graduates (degree earned no longer than 18 months)
and
– Italian University students who are about to finish their 1° or 2° cycle degree
The winners are offered the chance to spend 3 months working at the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs in Rome or in one of its branches abroad (about 700 seats):
ITALIAN Cultural Institutes, Embassies, Consulates
Representations at the International Organizations
The internships occur three times a year:
• January-April (Autumn call) ;
• May-August (Spring call);
• September-December (Summer call)
and
Permanent
MAE CRUI
•
For each call there are two selections:
– the former by the University which verifies the admission requirements (age limit,
degree mark, exam average) for each application submitted exclusively online
– the latter by the Diplomatic Institute and the CRUI (which evaluate the
applications and do the match between the profiles and the posts at stake on a
national basis).
•
Each University manages the administrative steps and monitors the interns during the
placement. It refers to the CRUI and to the tutors to ensure an appropriate training
programme and a recognition of skills and competences.
•
The Diplomatic Institute collaborates with the CRUI in the coordination of the
programme.
- it defines its objectives, regulations and contents;
- it updates the advertisement of the available positions and their job descriptions,
- it promotes related initiatives and monitors the internships and their results
•
The beneficiaries can actively take part in the system of the international relations of
our country in its political, economic, socio-cultural, scientific and development
cooperation aspects >>> a chance to get to know, from inside, how the Ministry
works in Italy and abroad and to start off an international career
