GRASSLANDS
General Description
• Grasslands are huge areas of land in
the middle of North America known as
prairies.
• The prairies are a type of grassland
dominated by plants and grasses.
• Very few trees grow on the prairies
and are usually widely scattered.
Locations of Grasslands
• Grasslands are
mostly located
in Europe and
North
America.
Temperate Grasslands
• In Europe, temperate
grasslands are called
steppes. In North
America, they are
called prairies.
• There are three types
of grasses which
dominate temperate
grasslands: short
grasses, mid grasses,
and tall grasses.

grasslands.
• The European Steppe
and the Great Plains
have almost
completely
disappeared to
overdevelopment.
