The purpose of the Bertha Smith Library
is to provide accessible quality
theological, general, and professional
educational resources and effective
services to support the needs of Luther
Rice University students, faculty, and
staff.
•Monday, Tuesday & Thursday. . . 8:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.
•Wednesday & Friday . . . . . . . . . . . . . 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
•Saturday … 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (Open on Saturdays when classes meet oncampus. Please check the website for current information)
•Closed Sundays & During Chapel Services.
•Hours subject to change when school is not in session.
Changes will be posted on doors and Internet.
 No Food or Drinks in the Library
 Please turn off ringer on your cell phone
and set it on vibrate mode.

outside the library entrance.
The Bertha Smith Library offers many services and resources
to our students, faculty, and staff. These include:

Walk-Up Assistance:
Students can receive
personal help with
any questions from a
Library staff member
in person during
library hours. If
requests for personal
assistance are made
during non-business
hours, they will be
met during the
following business
day.
Telephone Assistance:
Students can receive support
by calling the Library at (770)
484-1204 (ext. 263) or toll free
at (800) 442-1577 during
business hours.
Email Assistance: Students can email
requests for information and
support to [email protected].
Every effort will be made to
respond on the same day to
emails received before 4:00
PM. Emails received after 4:00
PM will be answered the
following business day.
Online Chat Support
During the hours the library
is open you can get help with
using library resources by
opening a chat session with a
librarian. To start a chat
session click on the chat
picture in the library
homepage.
Student ID/Library Card
The Student ID/Library card gives borrowing privileges at the
on-campus library.
 LRU students may obtain a library card for free.
 Library cards do not expire until graduation.
 Distance ed. students do not require a library card for
checking out library materials or for using Electronic
databases.
Circulation of Books
If you are an on-campus student, present the library
materials you want to check out with your library card.
If you are an off-campus student, send your material
request through telephone, mail, fax, or e-mail.
Search our Koha catalog before sending material
requests. Email your request by adding items to Koha
cart and e-mail the cart to [email protected]

You will have 4-6 weeks to use the
book(s).

Books can be renewed for two weeks
either in person or over the phone.

Reference books and materials on reserve
are not available for checkout.
Inter-Library Loan
Inter-library loan is a service whereby a user of
one library can borrow books or photocopies of
articles in journals that are owned by another
library.
When the materials you need are not available in
the Bertha Smith Library, you can request these
materials through our Inter-library Loan Service
(ILL).



You may submit the request in person at the
circulation desk, online or e-mail it to
[email protected] or fax the ILL completed form
to the Luther Rice University (fax number: 770484-1155).
Loans take an average of 2 to 3 weeks to arrive.
Length of checkout period, number of renewals,
and fines are determined by the lending
institution.
Computer Lab
Read and observe our Computer Acceptable Use
Guidelines.
Honor the Lord Jesus Christ in your computer usage.
Class assigned projects have priority.
 Do not change the workstation setup or software.
 Report hardware problems and viruses quickly.
Accessing your Library Account from Home
Click
on the link "Catalog Search” located on
the left-hand side menu of the Library's home
page.
Click
on “Login to Your Account” link at the
top right-hand corner
Enter
your student number in the Login Box
and your password (zip code) in the password
box.
You
can see what items you have checked out,
due dates, fines, etc., attached to your account.
Bertha Smith Library Collections
Main Collection: Open for circulation. Strong in Biblical studies,
church history and Practical theology.
Reference Collection: Dictionaries, encyclopedias, commentaries
and other reference materials for research.
Electronic Book Collection: Collection of e-books for reading
online.
Print Periodicals: On-campus periodical collection received in print
format. A list of print periodicals is available on the library web-site.
Journal Search Databases: Comprehensive searchable databases for
journal articles search.
Archives Collection: Theses and dissertations written by Luther
Rice students & Rare Books.
 Netlibrary is a database of Electronic books available
online in conjunction with the Bertha Smith Library. It is
accessible (for on or off campus access) from the library
homepage.
You can access NetLibrary e-books from any computer
with internet access. Login is required.
 If you need more information, please do call the
library.
Current issues are on the display
shelves.
Periodicals are not available for checkout.
Copiers are available to copy articles
from print journals.

GALILEO stands for GeorgiA Library Learning Online, an
initiative of the Board of Regents of the University System
of Georgia. A world Wide Web-based virtual library,
GALILEO provides access to multiple information
resources, including secured access to licensed products.
As a participating institution LRU has access to over 225
databases indexing thousands of periodicals and scholarly
journals. Thousands of journal titles are provided in fulltext.
Other resources include encyclopedias, business directories,
and government publications.
With a World Wide Web Browser you can connect to
GALILEO from the Find Journal Articles and More page.

How to Use The Library Catalog:
The On-line Library Catalog is accessible via the
library website. Use the library catalog to search
for books, videos, E-books and much more.
The Library catalog is similar to an internet
search engine. Conduct your search by using the
search features: title, subject, author or keyword.
A separate tutorial is available on the Library
website to help you in the use of the on-line
Library catalog.
