Construction Phase 1a:
– from Maintenance Facility site on South Capitol
Street to Firth Sterling/Suitland Parkway
– Completed 2010

Construction Phase 1b:
– Connection to Anacostia Metro Station and
construction of Maintenance Facility
– Coordination with other construction efforts in
area

Phase 2:
– From Anacostia Metro Rail Station to 11th
Street Bridge
– Currently in the NEPA Process

– Increasing appreciation for the environment
(1960s)
– Freeway revolts in response to construction
of Interstate Highway System (1960s)
