Lesson Three The Mindset Of Evangelism We observed three ingredients required to have evangelism. 1. A Message .. The gospel 2. A Messenger .. All disciples 3. A Mission Field .. Everyone else Our concerns for these three are : 1. The Message .. Accurate, clear 2. The Messenger .. Credible 3. The Mission Field .. Contact Our strategies for implimenting these three are : 1. The Message .. Verbalized 2. The Messenger .. Relationships 3. The Mission Field .. Contact Points Last lesson built a four part sentence about the process of evangelism. 1. 2. 2. 3. Evangelism is a process It is a life-related process God is involved in the process We must be alert and active in it The command to evangelize is not optional. Essential to our salvation & To the survival of church John 17: 18 As you sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. John 14: 15 If you love Me, you will keep My commandments. We each do it in our own way, but each and every Christian must verbalize the gospel to the lost. Jesus consistently practiced that evangelism which he requires of us. Every interaction was an opportunity to evangelize : a. John 4 ... Give Me a drink b. John 7 ... A feast c. Luke 13 ... Current event I. There must be a distinction between those in the church and those outside of it. P.C. culture tries to eliminate the distinction .. God wouldn’t... Every person on earth sins and needs forgiveness. Romans 3: 10 There is none righteous, not even one; Romans 3: 10, 23 For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God; Jesus Christ provides the cure for sin, but that cure must be accepted. Ephesians 2: 8-9 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; 9 not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. No one can be saved without faith. Hebrews 11: 6 And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him. There is only One way to get faith. Romans 10: 17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ. The church is a separated group. I Thessalonians 4: 12 ... so that you will behave properly toward outsiders ... Colossians 4: 5 Conduct yourselves with wisdom toward outsiders, making the most of the opportunity Our text emphasizes the difference in our relationship with insiders in contrast to outsiders. I Corinthians 5: 12 For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Do you not judge those who are within the church? The Corinthians misunderstood Paul’s instructions. I Corinthians 5: 10 I did not at all mean with the immoral people of this world, or with the covetous and swindlers, or with idolaters, for then you would have to go out of the world. His followers to go out into the world John 17: 18 As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. I Timothy 1: 15 Jesus came into the world to save sinners, Must point out sin as being wicked Ephesians 5: 11 Do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but instead even expose them; ( or as KJV .. reprove them ) What is the judgment we impose ? I Corinthians 5: 11 Not even to eat with such a one II Thessalonians 3: 6 Keep away from .. who leads unruly life I Corinthians 5: 13 Remove the wicked man from among ... The point is that we are specifically commanded not to separate ourselves from the wicked people of this world. John 17: 18 ... Matt. 28 ... Mark 16 II. Contact with the world does not include our participating in their evil. Outsiders must never have cause to believe that we accept their evil practices. Every interaction is an opportunity Colossians 4: 5 Conduct yourselves with wisdom toward outsiders, making the most of the opportunity. III. The attitude that God wants for us to have is taught in I Corinthians 9: 19-24. The Apostle surrendered his own will in order to lead others to salvation in Christ Jesus. Notice the Apostle’s motivation I Corinthians 9: Vs. 19 ... so that I may win more. Vs. 20 ... so that I might win those Vs. 21 ... so that I might win those Vs. 22 ... so that I may ... save some. The Apostle understood this attitude toward the lost to affect his own salvation. I Corinthians 9: 23 I do all things for the sake of the gospel, so that I may become a fellow partaker of it. IV. Jesus lived a perfect example of this mindset. The religious leaders harshly criticized Jesus for reaching out to save lost people. Luke 15: 1-2 Now all the tax collectors and the sinners were coming near Him to listen to Him. 2 Both the Pharisees and the scribes began to grumble, saying, “This man receives sinners and eats with them.” Jesus replied by telling three famous parables about loss Vs. 3-7 the lost sheep Vs. 7... Joy in Heaven over one sinner who ... Vs. 8-10 the lost coin Vs. 10... Joy in presence of angels over one ... Vs. 11-32 the two lost sons Vs. 32 ... But we had to celebrate and rejoice, for this brother of yours was dead and has begun to live, and was lost and has been found.’ Jesus received sinners for their salvation and for God’s joy. Jesus lived a life devoted to His purpose : Luke 19: 10 For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost. He totally surrendered Himself to His assignment from the Father. His followers are commanded to imitate His surrendered attitude. Philippians 2: 5-8 Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, although He e xisted in the f orm of God, d id not regard equality with God a thing to be g rasped, 7 but e mptied Himself, taking Philippians 2: 5-8 ... continued the form of a b ond-servant, and b eing made in the likeness of men. 8 Being found in appearance as a man, H e humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. The Apostle also espoused this same commitment and surrender to Christ Galatians 2: 20 I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me. What about you ? Have you committed your life to Christ ? Now is the time. Trust Him enough to surrender your life to serve Him. Come To Christ He will save you.
