A Systematic Public Mental Health
• ‘Parity of Esteem’ and reducing the Stigma of mental
well being and illness is vital.
• Consequences of not acting: Suicide, sickness and
poverty, low productivity, poor resilience against
adversity, reliance on already stretched front line
services, breakdown, disruption, risky behaviour and
suffering
• Care Act and System Leadership
• Mental Well Being as basis of behaviour change

Kent Public Health currently invest £295,900 towards the funding of a IDVA
service across Kent (this is the combination of two historic KCC funding routes
£109,000 from community safety and £186,900 from public health)
Kent Police, Kent Fire and Rescue, probation services and district councils also
contribute funding
IDVA’s work with victims of domestic abuse who have been assessed at “high
risk of homicide or significant harm”
Serving as the victim’s primary point of contact, IDVAs work with their clients
from the point of crisis to reduce levels of risk, to develop safety plans, and work
with other support services to help the victim onto a path to long term safety
NICE estimate that for every 100 clients that IDVAs work with, they will generate
total cost savings to public services of £4.7 million, including £0.3m savings in
health costs
IDVAs supported 1292 high risk victims in 2013/14
