Kenya – Government Structure
• Kenya is a republic
• One-house legislature called the
National Assembly
• President is the head of state and is the
leader of the Kenyan African National
Union (KANU) party
• Only has one main political party: KANU
Kenya – Personal Freedoms
• Citizens 18 years and older can vote
• Freedoms are written into the
constitution, but the government is
dominated by the president.
• There have been some improvements
in citizens’ rights in recent years.
South Africa- Government

elected by the National Assembly
• Majority rule was established in
1994, after apartheid ended
