Program Components
• Retrofitted from Internet Society’s Chapter program
• Standard set of policies
•Affiliates must be recognized, legal entities in the community they
serve
•Must support the mission of GGF
•Must not compete against GGF’s global priorities of standardization
and community building
•Finances kept separate, though Affiliates are encouraged to (or
must?) become organization members of GGF
• Standard process to obtain Affiliate status
•Apply to GGF Executive Director
•Must prove legal status (bylaws, etc.)
•Must have a membership policy and a minimum member headcount
•Must submit (light-weight) annual report to GGF
Expected Affiliate Activities
• Localization/Translation of GGF specifications and other
documents
• Education and outreach within Affiliate community
• Outreach to officials of regional funding and policy-setting
bodies
• Membership recruitment (organization and individual)
• Technical recruitment
• Marketing and communication channel
• Hosting GGF events
• Advisory role regarding local/regional priorities and
requirements

• Draft White Paper completed and ready for discussion
• Birds of a Feather (BoF) at GGF16
• Field testing of policies and procedures planned
•(Korea, Japan, Netherlands, Israel)
• Field test will result in refinement of policies and
procedures
• Next Steps:
• Update of white paper and submission to GGF Editor as
a Community Practice document
• Official launch of program in Tokyo (GGF17)
Questions
• Must affiliates be required to become organization members
of GGF?
• How do affiliates (e.g., GF-Netherlands) interact with EUwide bodies? What if EC wants to have a single
[coordinating] affiliate and not n country-based affiliates?
• Should we allow non-geographic communities? For
example, ISOC has an affiliate for people with disabilities.
