Can help you with what you need to improve the quality of your life 2. Want what you have to offer your community What do communities that include people with disabilities and older people look like? What people say.... • • • • • • • • • • • • • • Feeling safe Feeling welcome Good health and social care support relationships being with friends and family using local facilities/parks/libraries/leisure good transport education & learning going out Places to meet being accepted by community hobbies, support and interests groups Good housing being with peers (age group, religious or cultural).............. In Control & Community All citizens have something important to offer their communities – big or small Profound changes can happen in communities when ordinary citizens take the lead on transforming their communities The relationship between citizen and state needs to shift with citizens taking a more active role in developing their communities Communities are full of good people, organisations and resources that can enrich the lives of older and disabled people Different people have different barriers in their communities that requires a multi-faceted approach to shift In Control & Community Community business and services Natural networks and activities Community Public services Voluntary and Community sector More choice and control for people who use social care and health services Personal budgets in social care and health= people feeling more part of community life Public services Partners in Policy making/All Together Better & working together with... Enabling V&CS to come up with solutions, contracting in different ways Voluntary and community sector A greater focus on inclusive outcomes for older and disabled people Community development agencies include older and disabled people in their agendas when tackling social exclusion User led organisations Business understanding the value of catering to older and disabled customers Community business and services Working with local business to create good communities-social responsibility programmes/grant making...
