Q and A
WHAT IS RESTRUCTURING?
Significant redirection: a change of governance ….
• After the 5th calculation when a school has not
made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP)
• Planning: a one year process.
• Implementation: one or more years as needed to
fully implement the plan. Title I funds can
continue on, with the specific set-asides in place.
District Responsibilities
To develop a plan within 6 months of notification of
the school’s status on behalf of the school to be
implemented if the school doesn’t make AYP.
RESTRUCTURING ACTIONS
broadly described
A district must pick one or more of these:
• Reopen as a charter school.
• Replace all or most of the staff, which
may include the principal.
• Enter into a contract with an entity.
• Implement any other major restructuring
of the school’s governance.
• State takeover (not an option a district
can select in IL)
