Transcript CLOGHER VALLEY SURESTART

WHAT IS SURESTART?
The SS Programme was a Labour Government
Initiative rolled out in Northern Ireland in 2000.
It aimed to provide better more holistic services
designed around the child and the family.
There is evidence that early intervention and
support reduces family breakdown, strengthens
children’s readiness for school and benefits
society as a whole.
The SureStart model puts emphasis on preventive
action.
HIGH LEVEL OUTCOMES
SureStart uses an outcome focused approach.
There are 6 High level outcomes:
1. Being Healthy
2. Enjoying Learning and Achieving
3. Living in Safety and Stability
4. Experiencing economic and environmental well being
5. Contributing positively to community and society
6. Living in a society that respects rights
WHO FUNDS SURESTART?
In 2008 the responsibility for children’s services
including SureStart, transferred from the Department
of Health and Social Services and Public Safety to the
Department of Education.
Each SureStart Project involves a Multi-agency
Partnership of Health, Social Services, Education,
Voluntary and Community Groups working closely
together.
