Strep Throat with a rash most common in
children 2-10

Scarlet fever is caused when the bacteria
Streptococcus pyogenes releases the
toxin erythrogenic, affecting the epidermis
beginning on the torso, and the epidermis of
the tongue.





Fever of 101 or higher
Difficulty or discomfort when swallowing
Swollen lymph nodes
Nausea and vomiting
Headache

Antibiotics will be prescribed, cool baths can
reduce the fever and a humidifier can help
the sore throat.

Can cause serious hearing damage, blood
poisoning, bone infection, and death



Most common among children
Spread through fluids (sneezing and such)
Most severe (almost an epidemic) in the
1870’s






