Introducciones
At some point, you might want to introduce some friends in Spanish. Let’s
practice with the vocabulary for polite introductions!
There are a few different ways you can introduce someone. You can say:
Ésta es Rita. = This is Rita.
***Rita is a girl, so we have to use ésta.
Éste es Miguel. = This is Miguel.
***Miguel is a boy, so we have to use éste.
You can also use these phrases, but then you have to think
about WHO you are introducing your friend to so that you can
use the correct formal or informal forms.
**You use
le
if you are introducing your friend to someone you
would speak formally with (Señor, Señora, Señorita).
To introduce Paco to Señor Viteri, you would say:
Le presento a Paco. = I would like to introduce you to Paco.
**You use
te
if you are introducing your friend to someone
you would speak familiarly with (a friend, someone your own
age, family)
To introduce Paco to your sister, you would say:
Te presento a Paco. = I would like to introduce you to Paco.
Responding to an introduction…
After the initial introduction, you can say Mucho
gusto
or Encantado / a to respond.
You say encantado if you are a boy and encantada
if you are a girl.
The next person can respond with Igualmente,
Encantado / a or El gusto es mío.
