 The Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) is
the highest legal entity in Turkey representing the private sector.
 Today, TOBB has 365 members in the form of local chambers of
commerce, industry, commerce and industry, maritime commerce and
commodity exchanges.
TOURISM SECTOR ASSEMBLY OF TURKEY
 Tourism Sector Assembly of Turkey has been formed as an advisory body.
 Members of the Assembly consist of representatives of associations and
organisations of businessmen active in the sector and principal manager
or equivalent status civil servants of related public sector institutions and
establishments.
TOP DUTIES & OBJECTIVES
 Determine problem issues related to the sector and suggest solutions,
 Prepare sectorial reports and projections for the future and create sectorial
strategies,
 Organize activities such as symposiums, panels, conferences and forums to
encourage sectorial developments,
 Make suggestions for the sector to measure its current competitiveness and
how to increase its future market share,
 Set up meetings with government officials and related public sector
authorities when necessary, with the approval of the Chairman.

OF TURKISH TOURISM

UNWTO 2009 Report - Turkey is 9th in tourism revenue and
7th in tourist arrivals in the world.

One quarter of the world’s population can be reached within
three hours flight time.

Good balance between price and quality


Number of employment in the tourism sector is 1,5 million
which corresponds to 6,5 % of overall employment in the
Turkish economy.
 Tourism sector stimulates overall production in the economy
by creating demand for over 50 other sectors.
 Tourism is the biggest net foreign currency generating sector in the
economy. In 2010, Turkish tourism revenue was 20,8 billion US$.
 The size of domestic tourism revenue is around 1/4 of the
international tourism revenue. So in 2010, Turkey earned
5 billion US$ from domestic tourism.
 In 2010 the service sector constitutes 73 % of GDP.
 54 % of the total labour force in the country is employed by the
service sector.
 Tourism is among the first three sectors that attract highest level
of investments.

MILESTONES IN TURKISH TOURISM

Tourism Encouragement Framework Decree published in 1980.

Tourism Encouragement Law No.2634 published in 1982.

The tourism investment move started by the late prime minister
Mr.Turgut Özal at the end of 1983,
(Land allocations, investment allowance, VAT Exemption)

Tourism was declared as “Special Important Sector in
Development” in 1985.

 Belek Tourism Center and Belek Tourism Investors Union
(BETUYAB)
2 billion US$ of Superstructure Investments by Private Sector.
Total Infrastructure Expenditures (350-400 million US$ ) equally shared by
Tourism Investors, Ministry of Culture & Tourism, Other Public Institutions.
Completed infrastructure investments : Drinking water / Waste water treatment
plants / Road / Electrification / Telecommunication
 Istanbul Shopping Festival (40 days)
26 million US$ for Promotional Expenditure, resulting 900.000 arrivals –
500 million US$ revenues – 100 % hotel occupancy rate.

308 million US$ Public Sector Investment , 3.6 million US$ for Promotional
Expenditure , 2.500 participants from 52 countries

authorities to supervise more than 50 million US$ budget. Total Gov.

300 million US$ Public Sector Investment including Promotional Expenditure,
4.000 athletes from 49 countries
 Mersin 2013 Mediterranean Games
300 million US$ Public Sector Investment – 100 milyon US$ for Promotional
Expenditure, 4.000 athletes from 24 countries.
ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION / ISSUE
FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
Turkey clearly integrated the Principles of Sustainable Development
into Country Policies and Programmes safeguarding its environment
well into the future.
The Environment Impact Assesment (EIA) process in Turkey is very
crucial for Sustainable Development and the process starts with
applying to the Ministry of Environment and Forestry.
Turkey will continue to educate the public with EIA which will also
lead to long-term positive effects for Turkey's economy as well as
maintaining sustainable tourism while also protecting and preserving
natural and cultural assets.
