Folklore
is unique to groups of people
from different countries, tribes,
religions, occupations, and
regions.
True Folklore
existed in more than one
time or place and has more
than one version.
Folk Tales include
*fairy tales
*legends
*fables
*myths
Fairy Tales
often tell about the
adventures of a hero, heroine,
or trickster.
Fables
are mostly animal stories
that teach a lesson or
moral.
Legends
often tell “tall tales” about a
character who may or may not
have been a real person.
Myths
describe the creation of natural
occurrences and are often told as
though they are true.
Folk Tales have been written and
collected over the years by many
great writers from around the
world, including Aesop, Hans
Christian Andersen, and the
Brothers Grimm.
Modern day writers have also
written versions of folk tales.
Some favorites are
Paul
Galdone, Steven Kellogg,
and Verna Aardama.
