Our journey begins in the front of the church on the Southwest wall in the next slide and circles through the church in the natural chronology surrounding the life of Our Lord Jesus Christ and the Holy Family.

Immaculate Mary

My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord; my spirit rejoices in God my savior.

Luke 1:46

Mary was conceived with a heart unstained with “Original Sin”.

God our heavenly Father, knowing that Mary would be bearer of Jesus Christ the Son of God, created her soul pure and she is therefore called the Immaculate Conception.

It was declared dogma in 1854. We celebrate the feast on December 8 th

Annunciation

The Angel Gabriel said, “Hail, favored one! The Lord is with you. Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. Behold you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name him Jesus.” … Mary said, “Behold I am the handmaiden of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word.”

Nativity

… and they went up to the city of David that is called Bethlehem. While they were there, the time came for her to have her child and she gave birth to her firstborn son, She wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manger because there was no room for them in the inn.

... suddenly there was a multitude of heavenly host with the angel, praising God and saying: Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.

Finding Jesus in the Temple

Jesus and his parents went to Jerusalem for the feast of Passover and as they were returning the boy Jesus remained behind, but his parents did not know it.

After three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions.

Jesus said to Mary and Joseph, “Did you not know that I would be in my Father’s house?”

What man among you having a hundred sheep and losing one of them would not leave the ninety nine in the desert to go find the one?

And when he does find it says, “Rejoice with me because I have found my lost sheep.”

Agony in the Garden

Kneeling, he prayed saying, “Father, if you are willing, take this cup away from me; still, not my will but yours be done.” He was in such agony and he prayed so fervently that his sweat became like drops of blood falling on the ground.

Crucifixion and Death

When they came to the place called the Skull, they crucified him with the other criminals there … Jesus said, “Father forgive them they know not what they do.” Above Him an inscription read, “This is the King of the Jews”

Resurrection

The women who had come from Galilee followed behind …at daybreak they went to the tomb, they found the stone rolled away; but when the entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.

Two men in dazzling garments appeared to them … “Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but he has been raised.

Luke 24:4-6

Then they returned from the tomb and announced all these things to the eleven and others.

Ascension

Then he led them out as far as Bethany, raised his hands, and blessed them. As he blessed them he parted from them and was taken up to heaven.

They did him homage and then returned to Jerusalem with great joy, and they were continually in the temple praising God.

Assumption of Mary

After death, the body of Mary, the Mother of Jesus Christ, was taken into heaven and reunited with her son.

The Assumption was first commemorated as the “Feast of Dormition” (falling asleep) of Mary in the 6 th century.

The feast later developed into the Assumption that we celebrate on August 15th. It was defined as an article of faith by Pope Pius XII in 1950.

Who is it that comes forth like the dawn, as beautiful as the moon, as resplendent as the sun? So now, O children, listen to me; instruction and wisdom do not reject! Happy are those who keep my ways, watching daily at my gates. For he who finds me finds life, and wins favor from the Lord.

Hail, Queen of Mercy, protect us from the enemy, and receive us at the hour of death.
