ATOMS
• Smallest part of matter
• NON-living
Molecules
• 2 or more bonded atoms
• Form compounds
• NON-living
Organic molecules
carbohydrates,
proteins,
lipids and nucleic acids.
Inorganic molecules
Water,
Salts
And vitamins.
Macromolecule
• Very large molecules
•NON-living
Organelles
• “Tiny organs”
• Made of macromolecules
Cell
• Made of organelles
• Basic unit of structure & function
• LIVING
Tissue
• The same kind cell working together
• Living
A tissue is a group of cells of similar
structure that perform a shared function

Organs
• Tissues that work together
• Living
An organ is a structure made of a group of tissues
working together to perform specific functions
heart
lungs
stomach brain
liver
kidneys
Plant organs include the stem and the leaves

An organ system is a group of organs that
coordinate to perform related functions

In plants the shoot is an organ system consisting of
leaves and the stem

Systems
• Organs that work together
• Living
Organism
• Entire living things
(organisms)
• Usually made of
systems
• May be a single cell
• Living
http://israel-biologialacelula.blogspot.com/
What type of organism is this?
Unicellular or pluricellular?
Population
• Same type of
organism living
together
Community
• Several populations living together
• Population interact
Ecosystem
• A biotic (living) community plus the
abiotic (nonliving) features
Biome
• Similar ecosystems on earth together
Ecosphere
• Whole living layer around the globe
• Includes abiotic features

Sandra Ingerman's Blog
Who is GAIA?
• In Greek mythology, Gaia was a Titan who
personified Earth. She was the mother of
several later Titans, including Cronus, Rhea,
Iapetus (father of Atlas), and Oceanus. She
was worshipped as the Earth mother
goddess.
