(max. first 9 sessions) No minimal CGPA Maximum combined funding that can be received for the Master’s and PhD is 15 sessions including funding received from a federal agency.

UNIVERSITY OF OTTAWA EXCELLENCE SCHOLARSHIP

An Excellence Scholarship equivalent to tuition fees is awarded to recipients of SSHRC award excluding recipients in a graduate program at the Telfer School of Management*. • It is valid for each session you are awarded an external scholarship • If you were awarded an Admission Scholarship it will be replaced by the Excellence Scholarship • The Admission Scholarship will be reinstated at the end of the Excellence Scholarship if there are any remaining eligible sessions of the Admission Scholarship • This scholarship does not include any TA’s, RA’s or annual cash payment * Please contact the FGPS or the Telfer School of Management for details Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies

Please make sure you are submitting your application to the proper « Fonds ». If you have doubts, do not hesitate to contact one of the FRQ.

You must submit your application on-line and the supporting documents must be mailed to the appropriate « Fonds » by the deadline indicated on the preceding slide. The postmark on the envelope will determine if your documents were mailed on time. Mailing addresses are available on each website.

This presentation outlines the general eligibility criteria for each « Fonds ». It is imperative that you read very carefully all the eligibility criteria that are posted on each website of each « Fonds ».

IMPORTANT

You may ask your graduate academic assistants from your academic units to order your University of Ottawa transcripts. This way you will not have to pay the fee to obtain a transcript. However, you must keep in mind that you are asking a third party to complete your application. This person nor the University of Ottawa can be held responsible if your transcript does not arrive to the FRQ by the deadline.

Applicants must meet all eligibility requirements as of the deadline for submitting applications, namely, October 15, 2008, at 4 p.m.

Citizenship and Residence

• Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident living in Québec (as defined in 1.1 of the Common rules and regulations), for at least one year, at the closing date for the competition.

• Meet the citizenship and residence requirements within the meaning of the following legislation throughout the tenure of their scholarship: –

Health Insurance Act and the Regulation respecting eligibility and registration of persons in respect of the Régie de l'assurance maladie du Québec

Québec Taxation Act

and

Regulation respecting the Taxation Act

Restrictions

• Applicants cannot use the scholarship for preparatory studies.

• Professional Master’s programs are not eligible. At least one third of a program’s credits must derive from research and/or research training in order for a program to be eligible.

• Holders of scholarships from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) or any other recognized funding agency may not apply to the Fonds Société et Culture to complete a program of studies that is underway, whether the scholarship has expired or not.

• Applicants funded by a recognized agency such as SSHRC, NSERC, CIHR, FQRSC, FQRNT, FRSQ, FCAR, or CQRS, for a total of five years (or 15 sessions) cannot apply to the Fonds Société et Culture to begin or continue a Master’s or doctoral program.

• Doctoral applicants who do not obtain the minimum threshold for excellence (12/20) when evaluated for a Fonds competition must wait a full year before re-applying.

• Candidates cannot apply for the scholarship for preparatory studies. • Candidates with Ph.D.s are not eligible for a Master’s scholarship. • Candidates who have already received financial assistance from a recognized funding agency, (e.g. SSHRC, NSERC, CIHR, FRSQ, FQRSC, FQRNT, FCAR, etc.) over a period totaling five years (15 sessions) cannot apply for the current competition for starting or continuing a Master’s or Doctoral program. • A candidate is eligible for the Master’s research scholarships competition during the first six sessions of his/her Master’s degree (or the equivalent). The sessions completed in a Master’s program (or the equivalent) prior to the effective date of the scholarship will be deducted from the duration of the funding. No funding will be granted after a student’s sixth session in a Master’s program.

• A candidate is eligible for the Doctoral research scholarships competition during the first nine sessions of his/her Doctoral degree (or the equivalent). The sessions followed in a Doctoral program (or the equivalent) prior to the effective date of the scholarship will be deducted from the duration of the funding. No funding will be granted after a student’s ninth session in a Doctoral program.

• Applicants with a university undergraduate or Master's degree – Health professionals with a valid licence to practise in Québec must apply to one or other of the following award programs: • Master's and Doctoral Training for Applicants With a Professional Degree • Professional Postgraduate Training (Fellowship) • Canadian citizens or permanent residents domiciled in Québec (as defined in the Common Rules and Regulations, art. 1.1), on the date the award becomes effective, or by

FRSQ Terms and conditions

• Must be enrolled in a full-time Master's or doctoral program as of

September 30, 2009

• Master’s awards are reserved for applicants who have been enrolled in a master's research program, since

one year or less

as of April 30, 2009 • Ph.D. awards are reserved for applicants who have been enrolled in a doctoral research program for

three years or less

as of April 30, 2009.

• Students enrolled in a doctoral research program straight after his or her bachelor's degree must apply first to master's research program if they are eligible.

• The number of years is calculated on the basis of the enrolment date for the master’s program, or doctoral program, according to the application.

• Master's training awards: At the time of applying, the applicant must have earned a grade point average of B+, or the equivalent, in university undergraduate studies.

• Only grades for the degree presented for admission to the Master's or doctoral program will be considered.

• Must submit a health research project and be supervised by an independent investigator (as defined in the Common Rules and Regulations, art. 1.2).

• Applicants enrolled in a Master's program requiring rotations among several laboratories during the first year, and who therefore have more than one research supervisor, must provide a detailed description of the program and the laboratory work that will replace the research project.
