Dear Mr. Foletto Mirto,
Thank you for expressing your interest to join the IFSO Center of Excellence
Programme in Europe, Middle East & Africa during the 3rd Congress of IFSO
European Chapter in Capri.
Hereby, I am attaching the IFSO Guidelines for Safety, Quality & Excellence
in Bariatric Surgery to inform you about the requirements of the federation
concerning surgeons and institutions.
As you are aware, a Center of Excellence is an institution with appropriate
facilities, anxillary services e.t.c and surgeons with the right qualifications,
experience and volume of patients. Institutions and surgeons fulfilling the
IFSO requirements can apply to IFSO Accreditation Council for evaluation.
There will be a review process of both applications (Institutions &
surgeons) and if the requirements are met, provisional status will be granted.
Following that, a user-friendly internet-operated database will be provided for
entering each operated patient's details. Outcome of surgeries will be
accessed and site visitation by experienced auditors will follow. If everything is
in order, final accreditation as Center of Excellence will be provided by IFSO.

Thank you for sending the official request for evaluation of Azienda
Ospedaliera Universita Padova by the European Accreditation
Council for Bariatric Surgery. An auditor will visit your institution to
verify the reported institutional equipment, services e.t.c, surgeon’s
qualifications and operated patients’ data. After the site-visit has
been completed, the inspector will submit a report to 2 reviewers
who will forward their opinion to the EAC-BS Scientific Board for
final certification as COE.
The site inspection fess will be invoiced to you after the completion
of the inspection, since they are based on actual cost (auditor’s
payment and travel expenses).
In order to make the process as smooth as possible, reduce the
necessary inspection time and therefore minimize the cost, we are
attaching a check-list which has to be ready for the auditor.
The inspection will be conducted in the beginning of February 2011,
but the date will be finalized according to flights’ availability and
will be notified to you as soon as possible.
