REVISION OPPORTUNITY

Prompt Question

Passive acceptance of injustice may be

the greatest evil of all. In a coherent, well organized essay defend or refute this quote using specific examples from the play as well as from society today.

 For the final component of our reading and study of The Crucible you will produce a formal piece of writing. Your writing must display evidence of complex analysis that directly answers the question below, as well as contain detailed evidence (specific textual support) to support your argument.

Your piece must thoroughly answer the

question below. In terms of length, you must

be sure to completely answer the prompt

question and support that argument (i.e. this needs to be a multi-paragraph piece complete with thesis statement and quotes).

THE GOOD

   Most essays displayed a strong, complex understanding of the play…this is good!

Although this was a new type of essay question, you all produced pieces that developed an argument. Success of this development varied…but you all eventually got there.

Very interesting/intriguing connections to modern day society.

THE BAD

 YOU MUST DIRECTLY ANSWER THE PROMPT QUESTION!!!

 THIS ANSWER MUST BE COMPLEX AND FULLY DEVELOPED!!!

IT IS NOT ENOUGH TO ONLY ADDRESS THE QUESTION IN THE FINAL SENTENCES OF YOUR BODY PARAGRAPHS OR ONLY IN YOUR CONCLUSION PARAGRAPH…

Prompt Question

Passive acceptance of injustice may be

the greatest evil of all. In a coherent, well organized essay defend or refute this quote using specific examples from the play as well as from society today.

THE BAD

EVIL?

THE BAD

 We struggled with creating an appropriate balance between our textual and societal examples… 

The play must be at the FOREFRONT of your argument…the modern day examples should serve to SUPPLEMENT your textual response.

THE UGLY

 Punctuating titles – The Crucible or The Crucible NOT “The Crucible”  PLAY…not book!

 Asking questions…boo   Excessive P.S. (plot summary)  Lack of original titles  Rules of formal writing

Strong Original Titles

 No Road Between  The Greatest Evil of All  Evils of the World  Cowardice  Take a Stand, Be the Change  Standing Around
