What is INTASC?
The Interstate New Teacher Assessment and
Support Consortium (INTASC) is a consortium of
state education agencies and national educational
organizations dedicated to the reform of the
preparation, licensing, and on-going professional
development of teachers. There are currently 34
states that belong to the consortium.
Under the new rules from the Indiana
Professional Standards Board (IPSB)
teachers are given
licenses only when it has been
demonstrated that they have met
standards established by the IPSB.
The following are three basic sets of
standards that BSU candidates must
meet:
Why use INTASC?
New licensure rules, under NCLB, were set up
in 2002 (Rules 2002).
• Indiana’s changes in assessment, both
prior to graduation and for the first two
years of teaching (state-mandated
Mentoring Program)
• Caused systemic change throughout all of
Indiana’s higher education systems
