Content Teachers (ACT-ESL)
Hosted by VCU School of Education and
funded by the U.S. Department of Education
What is the ACT-ESL project?
•The ACT-ESL Project at VCU is designed to help
content-area teachers (6-12) for ELLs’ academic
engagement and success.
Summer institute
30 hrs. (6hrs. x 5dys.)
Classroom application:
Peer coaching
(2 in Fall, 1 in Spring)
Post-seminar
(4hrs. in April)
Benefits to you as teachers:
•Instructional strategies and resources to
help your students particularly ELLs and
low-achieving students.
•Professional development points and a
stipend ($24 x 34 hrs.= $816).
•Professional development opportunities
such as presentations at local, state, and
national levels.
•Opportunity for academic credit.
Are you eligible for the ACT-ESL project?
• You are an endorsed teacher in math,
science, social studies, or
English/language arts.
•You will be teaching a credit-bearing
course in your endorsed area with (an)
ELL student (s).
•You are available for the summer
Institute, follow-up classroom
applications, and a post-seminar.
