This is the schedule from New Orleans in 2012. This is purely to give you an idea of what the schedule might look like.

Safety

–

Like most other urban areas, Detroit’s challenges exist in certain vulnerable neighborhoods that we will either avoid, or enter (for the purpose of doing a service project) only with a specific safety plan articulated prior to the arrival of ELCA youth.

The kind of crimes that are most prevalent downtown (where the Gathering is being held) consist of petty larceny like cellphone thefts, which is happening all over the country.

Detroit 2015

Adult Leaders accompanying youth to the Gathering will receive common sense tips that are applicable in any city and personal safety tips for Detroit, like walking routes.

The Gathering’s Safety and Security Team will be conducting quarterly briefings with local law enforcement personnel, seeking their expertise as we design our movement around the area.

We will also make available technology (e.g., smartphone apps) to provide Gathering attendees with important information about their surroundings at their fingertips.

Who is eligible to attend?

Students in grades 8-12 during 2014-2015

–

Friends of Advent students are welcome to attend, but they need to participate fully, including fundraising, pre-trip gatherings, and post-trip debriefing (i.e., they can’t just show up the day the bus leaves) Cost

$1,350 (if 10 youth go)

Includes Gathering fee, housing, transportation, and food (food on travel days is your responsibility, all other meals are covered, however)

Drive to Detroit via motor coach with congregations from around the KC Metro Gathering is Wednesday, July 15 through Sunday, July 19 Depart Detroit around 1 pm on the 19 th , return LATE Sunday Night/EARLY Monday morning

In order to receive funds, you must participate. More participation = more dollars applied to your “account”

Begins now with the 150 Envelopes Fundraiser and will continue through June, 2015

Is applied “after the fact”

You pay the $1,350 up front and receive a “refund” check from the church once all fundraising dollars are received

•

Pre-Trip Gatherings

Beginning in January, on the 2 Attendance is not optional.
