EngageNY Portal Introduction Level 1 Project Managers September 25, 2013 EngageNY.org EngageNY Portal (ENYP) Overview EngageNY.org ENYP: Helping to bridge the gap between our values and our reality EngageNY Portal Supporting implementation of NYS Common Core Learning Standards through the ENYP Assess Analyze Take Action EngageNY Content and Communities Recommendation Engine Data Dashboard Views, Learning Maps, and Early Warning Indicator Flags Note: Availability of features and functionality vary across Data Dashboard Vendors (DataCation-Compass/ConnectEDU, myTrack/eScholar, and Schoolnet/Pearson) Components of the ENYP An instructional information system that will: • Allow authorized educators, students (grades 6 through 12), and their legal guardians (all grade levels) to log in and view student educational data through data dashboards • Provide users with access to instructional and learning resources tagged to CCSS through the EngageNY content management system, and • Enable educators to create secure online professional learning communities to share resources and collaborate with colleagues across the State, region, district, or school. EngageNY Portal Building a sustainable, flexible, and secure ecosystem of applications Objective Challenge Addressing the Challenge Sustainability Many instructional information system deployments are monolithic, “one-size-fits-all” applications Provide a path for districts to quickly develop, license, and deploy new applications at a low cost Flexibility The cost of switching application providers is high (i.e. “vendor lock-in”) Direct providers to use open, non-proprietary standards for data integration in order to reduce costs and expand choices Security Data security and privacy protocols are not standardized across schools and districts Develop and implement rigorous and standardizes protocols EngageNY Portal Building a sustainable, flexible, and secure ecosystem of applications Many states recognized these challenges, leading to inBloom: • founded with support from the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) to enable participating states and districts to increase their educational technology options, lower costs, and protect data security and privacy. • supports the EngageNY Portal’s objectives of sustainability, flexibility, and security. • nonproprietary and open source. Kits can be used alone or in groups to guide educator development in this work; they can also be used to deliver formal or informal learning experiences for others. EngageNY.org ENYP schedule Dashboard Selection Period (8/9/13-10/31/13)* • Authorized reps from districts and charter schools will select one of three dashboards to be used at no cost during the 2013-14 school year • A second selection process will be held prior to the 2014-2015 school year Training (Winter 2014 Onwards) • Train the Trainer sessions with Network Team Leaders (NTI) • Live, in-person training, live and recorded webinars, and self-paced tutorials/videos Portal Launch (Winter 2014 Onwards) • Winter 2014 – Educators can access the Portal • Spring 2014 – Fall 2015 – Parents (or legal guardians) and students can access the Portal * These dates reflect an extension to the original selection deadline of 9/27/13.. 13 EngageNY.org Data Dashboards EngageNY.org Data Dashboards: Assessment Data View Dynamic performance views for students, classes and groups at-aglance. EngageNY.org 15 Data Dashboard: CCSS Learning Maps Bridging performance data with the goals established in the CCSS, a learning map shows a student’s (or group of students’) progression towards mastery EngageNY.org 16 Data Dashboards: Early Warning Indicator Flag Early warning indicator flags help to identify students likely to drop out of high school and college EngageNY.org 17 Data Dashboards: Recommendation Engine Educators will be able to quickly and easily access highquality materials aligned to the CCSS based on students’ performance against standards or other needs/preferences EngageNY.org 18 What’s Next? Daily attendance (EWIF) Beginning of 2013-2014 school year. In-school and out-of-school suspension (EWIF) Beginning of 2013-2014 school year. GPA and cumulative credits (EWIF) Beginning December 2013 (after the first term). Interim benchmark assessments (Learning Maps) (Optional) Please work with your RICs to assess readiness.
