Components of the ENYP
An instructional information system that will:
•
Allow authorized educators, students (grades 6 through 12),
and their legal guardians (all grade levels) to log in and view
student educational data through data dashboards
•
Provide users with access to instructional and learning
resources tagged to CCSS through the EngageNY content
management system, and
•
Enable educators to create secure online professional
learning communities to share resources and collaborate
with colleagues across the State, region, district, or school.
EngageNY Portal
Building a sustainable, flexible, and
secure ecosystem of applications
Objective
Challenge
Addressing the Challenge
Sustainability
Many instructional information
system deployments are
monolithic, “one-size-fits-all”
applications
Provide a path for districts to
quickly develop, license, and
deploy new applications at a low
cost
Flexibility
The cost of switching application
providers is high (i.e. “vendor
lock-in”)
Direct providers to use open,
non-proprietary standards for
data integration in order to
reduce costs and expand choices
Security
Data security and privacy
protocols are not standardized
across schools and districts
Develop and implement rigorous
and standardizes protocols
EngageNY Portal
Building a sustainable, flexible, and
secure ecosystem of applications
Many states recognized these challenges, leading to inBloom:
•
founded with support from the Council of Chief State
School Officers (CCSSO) to enable participating states and
districts to increase their educational technology options,
lower costs, and protect data security and privacy.
•
supports the EngageNY Portal’s objectives of
sustainability, flexibility, and security.
•
nonproprietary and open source.
