Workshop Review
Environmental issues directly affect core humanitarian
areas and the environmental impacts of disaster and
conflict threaten people’s lives and livelihoods.
Consideration of the environmental impacts of a
project should be done at the earliest possible stage
of the planning cycle.
Post-disaster needs assessments should begin to
address environmental issues and the linkages
between human well-being and the environment at the
earliest stages.

Workshop Review (cont.)
Disaster recovery projects in all sectors should
incorporate activities that promote environmental
protection and take advantage of opportunities to
further human well-being by addressing the
environment.
Environmental impact assessment may be required by
donors, government regulations, your own
organization, or as part of normal due diligence.
