goals and practices
as they relate to our
core mission:

several school districts
across the United States

Its intent is to guide
school personnel through
a process that puts
teaching and learning at
the core of all school
district functions
Strategic Planning Goals
Goals:
a. To formulate a 3-year DRAFT of 7 Focus Areas by June 2009
b. To BETA-test Focus Areas and survey stakeholders during 2009 – 2010
c. To begin implementing a 3-year Strategic Plan by July 1, 2010
Format:
a. Each goal will be a SMART goal that can be monitored for 3 years
SMART= Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Timeline
b. Each goal should follow the following format:
Goal (describe)
Cost (identifying source)
Point Person (or team of people)
Action Plan (SMART Goal)
Strategic Planning Process
• Develop initial Strategic Planning Draft, based
on 2008 – 2009 needs and goals
• Conduct surveys for community input
• Present 1st draft of Strategic Plan to the Board
• Identify and remove barriers to strategic goals
• Board adoption of Strategic Plan
– Aligned with LEAP, WASC, SSC, ELAC, board goals,
and budget

April 2009:
Framework presented to the Board
May 2009:
Staff develops initial plans for focus areas
Aug–Oct. 2009:
Surveys collected on focus areas
Dec. 2009:
First draft presented to the Board
March 2010:
Final draft adopted
