What is APAGS?
 Founded in 1988
 All graduate student affiliates of APA are automatically
members of APAGS
 APAGS represents more than 30,000 members: 75%
are graduate students, 70% are women, 26% represent
ethnic minorities
 One of the largest groups within APA
 The largest group of graduate psychology students
organized worldwide
 Governed by nine officers elected by members, along
with chairs of five specialized subcommittees
 Supported by staff at headquarters in Washington, DC

• Won approval for the first APA journal (Translational Issues in
Psychological Science, or TIPS) with a core emphasis on
mentorship and placement of students on the editorial board
• Continues to receive a high volume of applicants for Basic
Psychological Science and Junior Scientist Fellowship grants

Public Interest
• Offers a mentoring program for more than 65 LGBT students
• Hosts webinars, virtual happy hours for ethnic minority students
• Supports a growing advocacy mobilizing and training network
with more than 250 student representatives in North America
Resources
• Hosts more than 30 hours of programming at APA’s annual
convention
• Publishes a number of resource and climate guides for graduate
students
• Does educational outreach, including “APAGS on the Road”
events and workshops regarding debt and loan repayment/
forgiveness for graduate students, and choosing high quality
graduate schools for undergraduate students
