J. T. Keiser Men of Science/ Men of God: Great Scientists Who Believed in the Bible By Henry M. Morris, 1982 "It is completely wrong for people to assume - as they often do - that a true “True science is never at enmity with scientist cannot simultaneously be a true God, and a true man of science can and man of God, believing in God as Creator should also be a true man of God.” and Savior and believing the Bible as God’s Morris, pg. xii revelation. As a matter of fact, many scientists of the past and present have been and are Bible-believing Christians.” Morris, pg. vii And it came to pass at noon, that Elijah mocked them, and said, Cry For the invisible things of him from the aloud: for he is a god: either his is creation of the world are clearly seen, being talking, or he is pursuing, or he is understood by the things that are made, in a journey, or peradventure he even his eternal power and Godhead sleepeth, andRomans must 1:20 be awaked. Later transferred to Iowa Agricultural College (now Iowa State University) where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1894 and a Master of Science degree in Bacterial Botany and Agriculture in 1896 In 1897, Booker T. Washington, founder of the Tuskegee Normal and Industrial Institute for Negroes, convinced Carver to come south and serve as the school’s Director of Agriculture. Carver remained on faculty until his death in 1943. “All my life,” he said, “I have risen regularly at four o’clock and have gone into the woods and talked with God. There he gives me my orders for the day. Alone there with things I love most, I gather specimens and study the great lessons Nature is so eager to teach us all. When people are still asleep, I hear God best and learn my plan.” “Ask for something He replied that my mind was more inyou keeping “Little man, still want to too small to know all about the with that little mind know too much.” peanut, but He said He would give meofa yours,” handfulHe of peanuts. replied. I carried the peanuts into my laboratory and the Creator told me to take them apart and resolve them into their elements. Which such knowledge as I had of chemistry and physics I set to work to take them apart. I separated the water, the fats, the oils, the gums, the resins, sugars starches, pectoses, pentosans, amino acids. There! I had the parts of the peanuts all spread out before me. The Creator said, “I have given you three laws; namely, compatibility, temperature, and “Now, All youyou know what theis pressure. have to do peanut is.” and put take these constituents them together, observing these laws, and I will show you why I made the peanut.” I looked at Him and He looked at me. “Why did you make the peanut?” I therefore went on to try different combinations of the parts under different conditions of temperature and pressure, and the result was what you see. I would often go to sleep with an apparently insoluble problem. When I awoke the answer was there. Why, then, should we who believe in Christ be so surprised of what God can do with a willing man and a laboratory. The Farmers’ Institute (Minutes from a meeting on May 27, 1904) Opened with singing, “Father, I Stretch My Hand to Thee.” There followed a Scripture lesson, prayer, and other song, “Alas! And Did My Savior Bleed.” Then came a little talk on “How and why we grow cowpeas.”… The Jesup Wagon Winner of the Roosevelt medal in 1939 for Outstanding Contribution to Southern Agriculture with the following citation: “To a scientist humbly seeking the guidance of God, and a liberator to men of the white race, as well as the black.” • Chemist •Businessman •Botanist •Artist •Soil Scientist •Medical Worker •Food Scientist •Humanitarian •Geneticist •Reformer •Teacher •American •Inventor “God is going to reveal to us things He never revealed before if we put our hands in His.” G.W.
