Introduce reviewer to teaching session
Arrange time & date for teaching session to be reviewed

Peer review –minimum 1 hour observation of teaching

eg lesson plan, module and year teaching etc, learning
objectives, areas of feedback required

◦ Notification to CBME that peer review has taken place includes:
Dates of review, key points of review, signatures of both parties
confirming process took place (Certificate from CBME to both with
payment to reviewer on receipt of notification )


Consent forms – for students+/- patients to be in videos
Student briefing – short explanation that reviewer will
attend session to review tutor not students!

Funding for pilot
◦ Attendance to workshop 1 - £150
◦ Attendance to workshop 2 - £150
◦ Being reviewed for pilot - £75

Conducting peer review £100 (2 hours – review and
post review meeting time)

Post pilot funding to be confirmed

tutors to comply as part of CBME requirements (introduce
rota to sign up to)

Conduct a short 5 minute “Microteach” session
Use both proformas to do peer review of session
Topics to teach could include:

Y2 students – Explain cervical smear test results
Y3 students – Principles of Type 2 Diabetes management
Y4 students – Drug Management of epilepsy
Y5 students – Post MI management including DVLA guidelines
Other topics include – How to use an inhaler, instructions for
spirometry and interpreting results, NICE guidelines on
management on hypertension, counselling about PSA blood
test and implications of results



Discuss any arising issues from practical session with
peer review process including pre and post meeting
requirements/forms
Final adjustments of proforma to be used – agree final
version
Central/video review sessions
◦ Group triads according to central or practice review?
◦ Review of videos – duration eg 30 mins straight/clips?
◦ Supporting material for video review eg copy of powerpoint
slides or patient scenario
◦ Conduction of central review – whole group or as triads
(rotate small groups OSCE style)





Invite GP tutors to arrange triad group (not from same
practice) to conduct peer review and be reviewed
Complete peer review pilot at either surgeries or
centrally by mid-June
Commit to the evaluation of process, may include
attending focus groups or completing evaluation
