What Is Meant By “Fruit”?

Three primary uses in the Bible
– A reproduced “kind” or “offspring”,
whether animate or inanimate (Gen 1:1112, 21, 24-25)
– The results of one’s work, effort, or
entitlement (Mark 12:2)
– Outward expression of attitudes and
dispositions that reveal the inward
character of man (Gal 5:22-23)

Relationship Of Tree To Its Fruit
–
–
–
–


Good tree produces good fruit
Corrupt tree produces evil fruit
Good tree cannot produce evil fruit
Corrupt tree cannot produce good fruit
Every tree that does not bring forth good
fruit is cut down and cast into the fire
The Fruit declares the type of tree - either it
is good or it is corrupt (there is no inbetween)
May Only Be One Or The Other

Matthew 12:33-35
– Either make the tree good, and his fruit good; or else
make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt: for the tree is
known by his fruit. O generation of vipers, how can ye,
being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of
the heart the mouth speaketh. A good man out of the
good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and
an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil
things.

James 3:11-12
– Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water
and bitter? Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive
berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield
salt water and fresh.
