The Vision of the Seven Bowls (ch. 16)

 The vision of the seven bowls is a glimpse of hell. It shows the severity of hell so no one flirts with it. All falls apart aside from God’s loving care. Hell is a world that exists in perpetual brokenness. Hell is a world of raging fury toward God and man. Hell is where the demons have full and unbridled attack on the souls they allured away from God.

The Vision of the Seven Bowls (ch. 16)

  The Vision of the Seven Bowls is a glimpse of the hell that arrives for the damned. Hell is shown as a meal ordered and prepared in bowls that are poured out for the lost to dine on forever.

The First Bowl

 NIV Revelation 16:1 Then I heard a loud voice from the temple saying to the seven angels, "Go, pour out the seven bowls of God's wrath on the earth." 2 The first angel went and poured out his bowl on the land, and ugly and painful sores broke out on the people who had the mark of the beast and worshiped his image.

The First Bowl

    THE FIRST BOWL OF GOD’S WRATH is poured out. The bodies of the damned suffer horribly with flesh that rots with open and painful sores. Of this Daniel speaks:

NIV Daniel 12:2 Multitudes who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake: some to everlasting life, others to shame and everlasting contempt.

These bodies of the damned are in perpetual decay forever. Of this Isaiah speaks:

Isaiah 66:24 "And they will go out and look upon the dead bodies of those who rebelled against me; their worm will not die, nor will their fire be quenched, and they will be loathsome to all mankind."

CHAPTERS 8-11. CHAPTER 16.

The present fallen world.

Hell arrives.

 

FIRST TRUMPET Food for life diminished.

 

FIRST BOWL OF GOD’S WRATH Eternal death and torment.

The Second Bowl

 3 The second angel poured out his bowl on the sea, and it turned into blood like that of a dead man, and every living thing in the sea died.

The Second Bowl

   THE SECOND BOWL OF GOD’S WRATH is poured out. In that world of hell, the waters are like the Dead Sea. At one time, the Dead Sea was the rich and luscious plain that Lot chose as the greenest of pastures. After divine judgment on Sodom and Gomorrah, the Dead Sea is now a deposit of lifelessness. If you drink a swallow of the Dead Sea’s waters, you will suffer and possibly die without treatment. This prefigures the water in hell. The waters will be incapable of sustaining any life whatsoever.

 

SECOND TRUMPET Life in seas diminished.

 

SECOND BOWL OF GOD’S WRATH No life in seas.

The Third Bowl

 4 The third angel poured out his bowl on the rivers and springs of water, and they became blood. 5 Then I heard the angel in charge of the waters say: "You are just in these judgments, you who are and who were, the Holy One, because you have so judged; 6 for they have shed the blood of your saints and prophets, and you have given them blood to drink as they deserve." 7 And I heard the altar respond: "Yes, Lord God Almighty, true and just are your judgments."

The Third Bowl

  Consequently, THE THIRD BOWL OF GOD’S WRATH is poured out. There is no safe drinking water in hell. The water is completely undrinkable. There is perpetual and eternal thirst.

Luke 16:24 So he called to him, 'Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.'

THIRD TRUMPET

Healthy drinking water diminished.

 

THIRD BOWL OF GOD’S WRATH No drinking water. Eternal thirst reigns.

The Fourth Bowl

 8 The fourth angel poured out his bowl on the sun, and the sun was given power to scorch people with fire. 9 They were seared by the intense heat and they cursed the name of God, who had control over these plagues, but they refused to repent and glorify him.

The Fourth Bowl

   THE FOURTH BOWL OF GOD’S WRATH is poured out. The heavenly bodies sear hell with a blazing heat. Imagine Mercury in the blazing heat of the sun. We know that hell is a burning place from many other parts of Scripture.

Jude 1:7 In a similar way, Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns gave themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion. They serve as an example of those who suffer the punishment of eternal fire.

FOURTH TRUMPET

 

Darkness is prevailing.

Heavenly glory diminished.

 

FOURTH BOWL OF GOD’S WRATH Heavenly bodies turn into a searing blaze.

The Fifth Bowl

 10 The fifth angel poured out his bowl on the throne of the beast, and his kingdom was plunged into darkness. Men gnawed their tongues in agony 11 and cursed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, but they refused to repent of what they had done.

Fire without light

  THE FIFTH BOWL OF GOD’S WRATH is poured out. The world of hell is plunged into darkness. It will never have light again. The damned bite down on their tongues because of their agony.

Hell arrives.

FIFTH TRUMPET

Partial spiritual attack by demonic on peoples of the earth. People spiritually suffer under their assault.

 

FIFTH BOWL OF GOD’S WRATH Darkness. God is openly cursed by the demonic lunatics in their pain.

    

How can heavenly bodies sear Hell and it is in darkness at the same time.

What is hell? A world?

Could they be on the dark side of hell? The dark side of mercury is over -200 degrees Fahrenheit.

Venus has a constant temp of 800 degrees Fahrenheit with axial rotation.

Venus is seered by the sun, but reflects most light away with thick atmosphere.

Does this a glimpse of the world of hell?

Hell?

The Sixth Bowl

 12 The sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates, and its water was dried up to prepare the way for the kings from the East. 13 Then I saw three evil spirits that looked like frogs; they came out of the mouth of the dragon, out of the mouth of the beast and out of the mouth of the false prophet.

The Sixth Bowl

 14 They are spirits of demons performing miraculous signs, and they go out to the kings of the whole world, to gather them for the battle on the great day of God Almighty.

The Sixth Bowl

 15 "Behold, I come like a thief! Blessed is he who stays awake and keeps his clothes with him, so that he may not go naked and be shamefully exposed." 16 Then they gathered the kings together to the place that in Hebrew is called Armageddon.

The Sixth Bowl

 THE SIXTH BOWL OF GOD’S WRATH is poured out. These damned souls are trapped forever with the demons who betrayed them and led the world astray. The demons who portrayed themselves as kind friends in temptation will take great delight in causing these souls endless torment in eternal and violent possession. No exorcism will free the souls of hell. These demons take three forms as the Unholy Trinity:

The Unholy Trinity

   Satan The Beast The False Teacher

Armageddon?

 On the Last Day, they are gathered together on the field of Armageddon to be punished. Armageddon comes from the Hebrew for Megiddo. There are three possible allusions to the Megiddo. My personal opinion is that all three have an intended warning for us.

Spiritual Armageddon?

  In the book of Judges, the tribe of Manessah tolerated unbelievers in the midst of God’s people. The unbelievers sought an opportunity to attack and subdue God’s people when an opportunity arose at the Megiddo mountain range. Ultimately, God’s enemies were unable to conquer them. The lesson. We must try our best for purity of doctrine and recognize that unrepented sin (conformity to the beast) or false teaching is like a yeast that spreads throughout the whole batch or like a virus in the body.

Armageddon?

 The second possible allusion is Mount Carmel. It was on the Megiddo mountain range where Elijah proved the prophets of Baal to be false and had them slaughtered. God is with those who faithfully proclaim His word in the face of great physical and spiritual opposition.

Armageddon?

 The third possible allusion is King Josiah. Josiah did everything right. He was the best of all the kings after Solomon. Josiah was the Martin Luther of the Old Testament. He brought reformation and conformity back to God’s Word after he, himself, discovered God in the Scriptures.

Armageddon?

 He sought a reformation to God’s Word in a time of great evil and adultery. He wanted everyone to know God’s Word and he tolerated nothing that did not conform to God’s Word.

Armageddon?

 One little… no, make that big problem with Josiah, he wanted to change God’s prophecy about Judah being destroyed by Babylon. He thought he could stop God’s will by forming an alliance with Assyria. He allowed himself to get entangled in the affairs of the power hungry world to try to save God’s people from harm.

Armageddon?

 In an alliance with Assyria, King Josiah went to war against Egypt to prove his allegiance to Assyria. In fact, he decided to fight with his men to show how serious he was to prove his loyalty and pledge to Assyria.

Armageddon?

  The pharaoh, Neco, slaughtered the God-zealous Josiah on the plains of Meggido. In spite of his great love for God and His people, Josiah could not thrwart God’s plans for his people to suffer for a time to be refined anew unto him.

Armageddon?

  One decade later, Assyiria, Judah, and Egypt fell to a new powerhouse, Babylon. The lesson from this, the peoples of the earth will arise against the Church. We should not compromise the clear Word and will of God.

Armageddon?

 As with Judah, a period of suffering at the hands of the world will refine the hearts and minds of God’s people as His Word sustains them.

Armageddon?

 From these three allusions, we can summarize what Armageddon means.

Armageddon?

  The peoples of the earth will see the people of God as an obstacle to their own desires’ fulfillment. The people of God are to faithfully endure knowing that their victory will soon be revealed.

The Seventh Bowl

 17 The seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air, and out of the temple came a loud voice from the throne, saying, "It is done!" 18 Then there came flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder and a severe earthquake. No earthquake like it has ever occurred since man has been on earth, so tremendous was the quake.

The Seventh Bowl

 19 The great city split into three parts, and the cities of the nations collapsed. God remembered Babylon the Great and gave her the cup filled with the wine of the fury of his wrath. 20 Every island fled away and the mountains could not be found.

The Seventh Bowl

 21 From the sky huge hailstones of about a hundred pounds each fell upon men. And they cursed God on account of the plague of hail, because the plague was so terrible.

The Seventh Bowl

 THE SEVENTH BOWL OF GOD’S WRATH is poured out. The damned billions are gathered together on a piece of land that crumbles and collapses into the hellish world to come. The eternal weather report: Hundred pound burning stones fall from the sky, while temperatures break the thermometer.

The Seventh Bowl

 But don’t think hundred pound hail stones or extreme heat will put them out of their misery. They can not die to another world or leave this one. They are in eternal death and decay in hell.

The Seventh Bowl

 This vision ends with the occupants of hell shouting profanity and curses at the Lord Jesus.

The Seventh Bowl

  Where is the Gospel in this horrific vision? The Vision of the Seven Bowls is a glimpse of the hell that arrives for the damned. Again, hell is shown to be a meal prepared in bowls that are poured out for the lost to dine on forever.

The Seventh Bowl

 What does this mean? In the Garden of Eden, Satan received an eternal feast of what He really wanted – Man without God. Man without God’s presence is dust. Man was created from dust. And so Satan was told he would not soar the heavens but be confined to dust on his belly and eat dust forever as his eternal meal.

The Seventh Bowl

 We have been renewed in Christ to want a future with His care. This is your glorious feast that awaits to receive – His eternal service and care in the world of paradise.

Righteous Anger

 Can a parent be angry with whatever and whomever is a danger to their child?
