Trucking 101
Presented By Nick Lykon of A & A
Machinery Sales Inc.
How do I pick a trucker?
• Performance of history
• Asset based, do they actually own a truck
• How time sensitive is the need
Do’s & Don’ts in Picking a Trucker
• Stay with what works during time sensitive shipments; example
riggers loading or unloading, last day on the job
• Make sure your truck is not the last truck scheduled for pick up at an
auction or a site that has a deadline
• Use new trucker or broker only when flexible loading and unloading
schedule
Do’s & Don’ts in Picking a Trucker
• Do not try new carrier when time sensitive pickups.
• Do not wait to the last day to order a truck.
• Do not believe the broker has a truck until you get the drivers
phone # or at least their dispatch phone #, and confirm.
• Do not select a carrier on oversize loads that is half the price as
everyone else, without confirmation of a truck with a phone #
What can I say or do during loading
• Remember in the court of law you are a professional
• You always have the right to stop some thing that is not
right, example chaining over a machine surface.
What can I say or do during loading
• We always will make our suggestions as “if I was tying
this down I would do it this way” we never state this is
how it has to be done.
• If something does not look right with a customer
routed truck, call the customer. Example no tarpping.
Do you include freight in the sales price?
• No unless you
have to make
the sale. Less
then 10% of
our sales
include freight
in the sales
price
• Always get
three prices
• Always use the
middle price
• Always mark
up freight 15%
to 30%
• If the
customer is
freight savvy
they can send
their own
truck in and
this gets you
off the hook
once the truck
is loaded.
• Always make
sure your
carrier is
insured
properly.
A&A Machinery Moving requires that Invoices have our
PO# on them. Invoices without PO's will not be processed.
