MetaLib User Interface Using MetaLib MetaLib may be used at two different levels: guest users and logged on users. Guest users have limited access to the databases as well as minimal personalization privileges. Services not available to guest users either do not appear as options on the screen, or appear with a locked icon At any time during a session if the user logs on, all current work is retained and can then be saved.

MetaLib User Interface To access MetaLib Enter your library card barcode, password, select home library from the dropdown list, click Login: 6

MetaLib User Interface Quick Search Once logged in, you will see the Quick Search page 7

MetaLib User Interface Quick Sets Clicking a Quick Set name opens a window displaying the resources in the set, a short description of the Quick Set, and the number of databases included. Each resource name is hyperlinked to its native Web interface. In addition, clicking the INFO button next to a resource displays a description of the resource.

MetaLib User Interface Select Quick Set The search defaults to using the Newspaper quick set, select the set you want to search 9

MetaLib User Interface Quick Search Summary The Quick Search Summary page appears during the execution of a Quick Search and updates the user with the ongoing status of the search 11

MetaLib User Interface Results list – Table View Records are presented in a tabular format, including ranking Relevance, Author, Title, Year, and Database Name. 12

MetaLib User Interface Extending the retrieved result set MetaLib retrieves the first 30 records from each database. If you wish to extend this initial set, click “retrieve more” on the tool bar. The system fetches another bulk of records, resorts the extended sets, and displays them on the screen.

MetaLib User Interface Search Native Interface By clicking on the link for Regional Business News, the single database opens: You can then search the native interface 26

MetaLib User Interface Find Database – using Locate The Locate function allows the user to search for databases by specifying values for title, vendor, or any word. Category and file type options also exist.

MetaLib User Interface Find e-Journal You can also search for individual journal titles. Selecting find e-journal takes the user to the SFX A-Z list. Searches can be performed for all e-journals within the statewide databases.

MetaLib User Interface MetaSearch MetaSearch allows the user to select databases they wish to search.

MetaSearch provides options to search Quick Sets, My Databases (if you have saved databases), Categories or Locate.

MetaLib User Interface Save Searches To save previous searches to History, go to MetaSearch, click previous searches, then click 43

MetaLib User Interface History • To view History, click My Space, History Queries can be reactivated by: clicking the query • clicking the databases that were searched • define the query as an Alert • or remove the query from the list 44

MetaLib User Interface Preferences The user can set search preferences which will be saved from session to session. Preferences that can be defined include: • Default views for database lists and result lists • Number of results per page • Language will always be English • Portal will be the library you logged into 45
