Communicating
Through a One Way Mirror (Firewall)
• Mentors can take your
feedback to help coach the
new teacher.
• Mentors cannot give you
information for evaluations,
etc.
• Share what is going well and
area’s that need additional
work and refinement.
• Be specific: Organization of
the room, transitions, wait
time, etc.
• What would the evidence
look like demonstrating that
they are meeting the
expectations.
• Stating that they “are doing
great” is not evidence
based.
• Give specific examples.

PLAN
Handouts
PLC Meeting Structure
• Each of the 8 District PLCs will be
implementation focused, with the goal of
providing opportunities for teachers to
practice new skills, collaboratively analyze
evidence, reflect upon the implications and
determine next steps.
• PLC sessions will be held in DMPS
classrooms and will be facilitated by grade
level teachers and instructional support staff.
• Each meeting will include the following 4
components: Connect, Learn, Manage and
Close. This predictable structure will
support a FOCUS on classroom
implementation of Blended Learning and the
Go Math! materials.
What we need from building leaders…
• Ensure all staff members register for the
appropriate PLC between Aug 13 – Sept 2
• Communicate the expectation for attendance and
address recurring attendance issues
• Ensure teachers know the purpose of the meetings
and the role of the facilitator
• Individually address professional conduct issues

DMPS IC Support
**please follow this workflow in order to
minimize confusion and response time
Support Tickets
• The Dept. of Education has set up a “Support Ticket”
system for the reporting of issues within Iowa Tier.
– While we are getting started with this system, please first
communicate all issues with Liz Griesel.
– She may then ask an internal coach to complete a
support ticket if the issue is specific to a building.
– If the issue is wide-spread across the district, Liz will submit
a support ticket.
It will be important for us to document and communicate
any issues within the Iowa Tier System.
Interested in administering additional
FAST assessments?
• The fall testing window is open from August 28th to
September 22nd.
• If all K-1 testing is completed early within this
window, buildings may choose to administer
additional assessments. Please note the following:
– All of your staff will be added to the Iowa Tier system via IC
– Student testing materials have been purchased for K-6
– District provided support materials are only available for K-1
– State provided training materials are available for K-6
