How Does It Work?

• One Virtual Group uses a “flipped classroom” approach which means you use the One platform to learn and prepare to put your new skills into practice during the “live” sessions with your coach.

Getting Started

Can be edited as appropriate for your customer’s testing approach • To place you in the right group for your needs, we need to know your current English speaking level. There are 3 ways to have a speaking level entered and/or recognized : – If your English speaking level has recently been assessed, your company can provide us with your result; or – You can be assessed before you start your program using a Pearson English assessment tool; or – Once you log in, you will be prompted to take a Pearson English assessment * * Note: In the case you are prompted to complete the test as part of your onboarding process, please take a few minutes to complete the test and wait a few moments before trying to enter into the One platform again to allow the system to update your speaking level. If you are prompted to take the test again, please clear your computer cache and log in again to http://login.globalenglish.com

One Virtual Group Welcome Email

When you receive the One Virtual Group welcome email from do-not [email protected]

. please click on the “Get started” button. You will be asked to set your password. You will also be asked to confirm your personal details. If you do not yet have a speaking score, you will be prompted to take a Pearson English assessment immediately, so please be ready to take this test when you first connect.

What Happens Next?

• Once we have your English speaking level, the coordination of your group begins. Note that we cannot place you into a group without your speaking level, so we encourage you to complete the assessment as soon as possible to avoid a delay for your first Virtual Group session.

• You will be grouped with learners of the same or very similar speaking levels as yours, and who are also in the same or similar timezone • Your sessions will be arranged for a time within normal working hours, Monday to Friday.

12 While you are waiting for details of your Virtual Group sessions, you should start working on the exercises recommended on the One Home Page. Also please explore the many features and tools available 24/7 to help you work and communicate effectively in English.

Program Details Email

* Within 1-2 weeks, you will receive the Program Details email that • • • • • • contains the following information: Coach Name Session Day & Time (please check that the time zone is correct; this can be changed in your user profile) Session Start Date Frequency of Sessions Duration Cancellation Policy* Sessions can only be cancelled and rescheduled if all of the group agree. If you are not able to attend a session, you will be marked absent.

Until your first session is scheduled, please continue to use One!

Check Your Calendar

• Once you have received your programme details, you can see all of the planned sessions in your Calendar.

• The Calendar can be accessed by clicking on Virtual Group at the top of the One Home Page.

Synchronise Sessions To Your Own Calendar

• It is highly recommended that you synchronise your planned sessions with your own calendar (Outlook, Google Calendar, etc).

Preparing for your Sessions

Attending Sessions

Accessing One Virtual Group Sessions

On the day/time of your first Virtual Group session, connect to login.globalenglish.com and click on Virtual Group 20

To enter the Virtual Group meeting room, click on the green “Connect” button If you need to contact your coach directly, click on the Trainer name.

Connecting To Your Group With GoToMeeting

You will need a headset to participate in your Virtual Group.

If you need to use a telephone (preferably a landline), you must first log into the virtual classroom to see the dial-in details on the screen.

Use the GoToMeeting control panel to select your audio option (microphone or telephone). You can also send chat messages to your coach 22

Meet Your Virtual Group Classmates

• One Virtual Group is an interactive experience and your coach will want to share materials with you online so it is not possible to participate by audio only.

Cancelling or re arranging your sessions

• • • One Virtual Group sessions are a group class and the scheduled sessions will continue, even if not everyone is able to attend.

If you are not able to attend a session please notify your coach at least 12 hours before a scheduled session. You will be marked as absent from that session.

A session may be rescheduled only if the entire group agree. In this case, please arrange with the Coach to reschedule the session. Sessions must be rescheduled before your Pearson English One Virtual Group license expires. 25

Example 1 - Cancel a Session

• “I cannot attend class next Thursday because I will be on holiday. What do I do?” – Log into One Virtual Group. Click on the session from the Calendar then click on the Cancel Session button. – You will be marked as “Absent” and you will not be able to reschedule the session.

Example 2 – Change Group

• “The time given in my program details isn’t convenient. What do I do?” – Email [email protected]

to ask if another group for your level is available.

After Your Session

Session Report Email

Within 24 hours of a completed session, you will receive a session report email from [email protected]

with links to your session report and session details. 29

Session Report

One Virtual Group session reports provide your group with constructive feedback from your coach on your performance. For confidentiality reasons, this report can only be viewed by the people in your Virtual Group and the coach.

Rate Your Session

Your feedback is important to your employer and to Pearson English. When you access your session report, you will be asked to provide a session rating and you may leave a comment. The rating indicates your level of satisfaction with the coach and the subject of the session • Do not rate your own performance during the session!

Rate Your Coach

You may also rate your coach to express your level of satisfaction with him or her. From a session report, you can click on your coach’s name and leave a rating and a feedback comment 32

Additional Features

Magazine

The Magazine provides regularly changing and interesting articles to help you improve your vocabulary Note: Time spent using the Magazine will not be counted as formal learning time in One 34

Learning Journal

• The analytics show your recommended areas for improvement based on the feedback from the trainer in the session report.

• Flashcards are personalised based on the feedback provided by your coach. They consist of new words for the group. • Journal events are another way to view detailed feedback from your sessions.

• Clicking on the “love” icon at the left will include this feedback more frequently in your flashcards • Clicking on the “dustbin” icon will stop the feedback appearing in your flashcards 36
