How Do You Start and Move a Car with Automatic

Transmission?

Make sure the gear selector lever is in Park  Check that the parking brake is set  Set the automatic choke if needed  Turn the ignition key to the start position. Release the key as soon as the engine starts.

 Check the gauges and warning lights

How do you put a car in motion with Automatic Transmission?

 Press down firmly on the brake pedal  Use your right hand to shift the gear selector lever to Drive or Reverse  Release the parking brake.

 Turn on your directional signal to indicate the direction you want to move.

 Check for traffic in your rearview and side view mirrors. Be pre-pared to accelerate into the de-sired lane once the roadway is clear.

 Look over your shoulder to check blind spots  Remove your foot from the brake, and apply gradual pressure to the accelerator.

How Do You Slow and Stop a Car with Automatic Transmission?

 Check your mirrors for any cars that may be following  Apply smooth, steady, firm pres-sure to the brake pedal, easing up slightly as you come to a halt.

 Leave the transmission in drive if you plan to move ahead within a minute or so, as when stopped for a red light.

How Do You Operate a Car with Manual Transmission?

 Press the brake pedal with your right foot. With your left foot, press the clutch pedal to the floor.

 Shift into First gear.

 Release the parking brake  Switch on your turn signal to indicate the direction you plan to move

 Check for traffic in your rearview and side view mirrors. Look over your shoulder to check blind spots.

 Slowly let the clutch up to the friction point. Remember: look at the roadway, not down at your feet or hands!

 Move your right foot from the brake to the accelerator  . As you press down gently on the accelerator, slowly let up the clutch pedal all the way.

 With your foot on the brake, shift into Reverse gear  Ease pressure off the brake slowly  Look at the point where you want to go, so that you can identify and correct steering errors early.

 Concentrate your visual search out the rear window, with quick, repeated glances to the front.

 Continue to look out the rear window as you bring the car to a stop
