Our Customer Service Department is a link
between you, the Community Mental
Health System and the community.
Customer Services seek to reduce stigma
about disabilities by educating the public.
We also strive for you to be satisfied with
the services you receive.

10 steps for Crisis Prevention





Be Empathic- Try not to judge or discount the feelings of
others.
Clarify Messages- Listening to what is really being said.
Respect Personal Space- Stand at 1 ½ feet to 3 feet
from the acting out person.
Be Aware of Body Position-Standing eye to eye, toe to
toe with a person sends a challenge message.
Ignore Challenge Questions- redirect the attention to the
issue at hand

Permit Verbal Venting when Possible- Please let
the person release as much energy as possible.
Set and Enforce Reasonable Limits- state limits
and directly clearly and concisely.
Keep your Nonverbal cues Nonthreatening-Be
aware of gestures and body movements.
Avoid Overreacting- Remain Calm, rational, and
professional .
Use physical Techniques only at last resort-

PEER SUPPORT SPECIALISTS
What is a Certified Peer Support Specialist? (CPSS)
 A person in recovery and certified to help peers in
their journey of recovery.
What can a Peer Support Specialist do?
 At the Drop In Center, a CPSS can provide a listening
ear, give information about local resources and is
trained to facilitate support groups.
 At the New Focus Clubhouse, a CPSS can help persons
in the units complete their paperwork and help with
resources in the community.
 If you would like to talk with a Certified Peer Support
Specialist, ask for Customer Services.

A support group is a gathering of individuals who share a
common goal. In a group setting, individuals are able to express
how they feel and what they do to cope. Come join this group
