WHAT IS THE DUKE UNIVERSITY TIP
PROGRAM
• Talent Search that helps students and
parents know how advanced their students’
abilities truly are.
• Eligible seventh graders are invited to take
the ACT college entrance exams, which
allows them greater insight into their abilities
and also provides them with valuable
benefits and resources.
• FYI- Most colleges require a minimum score of 18 on
the ACT for acceptance.
ELIGIBILITY
• Student must be in the 7th grade
• Have scored in the 95th percentile on ARMT+
• ( 6th Grade Reading Score 722 or higher)
• (6th Grade Math Score 718 or higher)
• Students can qualify in only one subtest or in
both.
WHY PARTICIPATE
• The knowledge and experience you will gain from
taking an above-level test like the ACT or SAT is
invaluable. Duke TIP Talent Search participation will
help you better understand your academic abilities
and more effectively plan for high school and
beyond. For the next six years, Duke TIP will support
you with challenging educational programs and
resources that will contribute to your scholastic
development.
WHY PARTICIPATE ?
• Academically talented students need special
motivation and support. Duke TIP will help you grow
by providing opportunity for above-level testing,
feedback on your abilities, resources, and
encouragement to continue to challenge yourself
educationally.
• By participating and taking the ACT you can be a
step ahead on preparing for your educational
future.

• Take the ACT earlier than it is offered to other students
• Enewsletters throughout your 10th grade year and receive a
free copy of My College Guide in 10th and 11th grade
• Receive tips on planning for high school and college and
access to resources through Duke TIP
• Access to the Educational Opportunity Guide which contains
listings for schools, summer programs, and academic
competitions across the United States and abroad.
• Gain Recognition- Students who receive outstanding scores
on the ACT will be honored at special recognition ceremonies
at universities throughout the U.S.
• Receive Discounts on Learning Products
