Crime Prevention Course
For SJAB
Briefing for Officers / Teachers
Objectives
- To inform about the latest developments in the local crime
scene
- To inform schools about the changes in the course and
assessment requirements
Crime Prevention Course
(since 2007 with SJAB)
- Collaboration between National Crime Prevention Council
(NCPC) and St John Ambulance Brigade in 2007
- To educate our students with the knowledge of crime
prevention
- Updates between NCPC and SJAB based
on latest developments in the crime scene
- Latest Badge Handbook launched
on 4 August 2014
Changes in Course & Assessment
The changes include the following:
- Conduct of Course & Assessment
- Materials required for students and teachers/officers
- Practical Assessment
Conduct of Course & Assessment
Officers & Teachers need not be trained in order to conduct the
course and assessment.
NCPC revises the pre-requisites in order to give opportunities
to teachers and officers, by getting them to do self-reading
before they conduct the course and assessment.
So long as the course & assessment is conducted fairly, NCPC
has no objections if the officers and teachers are not previously
trained.
The reading materials are available online in
both NCPC website and SJAB CPBS website.

The above materials are also available for download from the
CPBS website
The handbook can be distributed to the students via:
- Email (to the students)
- Upload to the LMS Portal (ie. MC Online / AskNLearn etc.)
to share only with SJAB members.
The score card is to be printed (A4 and fold into booklet) and
issued to students taking part in the course.

Conduct of Course & Assessment
The assessment component will comprise the following:
- Theory Test (Online)
- Visit to Neighbourhood Police Centre (NPC)
- Practical Assessment
- Dissemination of Crime Prevention Tips
Duration to complete: 3 months (recommended)
Conduct of Course & Assessment
The theory test will be administered online, via the NCPC
website.
The test URL will be http://www.ncpc.gov.sg/cppb-sec.html
When the score appears, student will record the score in the
score card and teacher/officer will verify and sign.
After typing the URL, click the link to access the test portal. No
User-ID is needed.
Conduct of Course & Assessment
The learning journey to the Neighbourhood Police Centre is
compulsory and should be conducted after the theory lessons.
Teachers will contact the NPC personnel to arrange for the
visit. The list of NPCs and contact persons are available in the
CPBS website.
At the end of the visit,
students will record the
date and venue and
have it signed by the
officer/teacher.

The student is to disseminate at least 3 crime prevention tips to
their parents / guardian or any adult family member or relative.
The adult must be at least 21 years and above.
After the task is completed, the adult who receives the
information will indicate his/her name, date and sign on the
score card. The teacher/officer will verify and sign at the
column provided.
Conduct of Course & Assessment
The final component, the practical assessment is to be decided
by the teacher/officer conducting the course. The mode of
assessment can be any of the following:
- Skit Performance (maximum group of 5 members)
- Poster Design (preferably individual work)
- Video Production (maximum group of 5 members)
- Show and Tell (individual / maximum group of 3 members)
Project is 35 marks and is marked based on creativity (10
marks and content (25 marks).

To pass the course, the student must attain the following:
- Passed the Online Test (25 marks or above)
- Passed Crime Prevention Practical Assignment (18 marks or
above)
- Attended Learning Journey to the NPC
- Completed Dissemination of Crime Prevention Tips
Post Course Administration
Upon completion of the course, schools need to complete the
following to apply for the proficiency badges:
1. Submit online application via the St John Portal (CPB
Module)
2. Submit the new CPB-CRP Form (hardcopy with signature
and school stamp)
3. Documentary proof (letter / email correspondence) of your
visit to the NPC
Upon receipt of the documents, Zone CPB officer will
recommend the application via the CPB Management System.
Zone CPB Officers are to retain the detailed results until the
applications are approved.
